Faubert thanks the West Ham fans for their support
North Bank - Tue Feb 2 2010
Julien Faubert has thanked the fans for their support following the death of his mother last week.
Julien played against Blackburn Rovers in the 0-0 draw on Saturday despite his mother passing away just 48 hours earlier. It’s been a difficult time for him and his family and wanted to say 'thank-you' for all the messages of support that have been sent in.
"I am so pleased to have received these messages from our supporters. I can't tell you what it means to me," Faubert said of the condolences sent to the club as well as to fan websites.
"It is so nice. It just shows that the fans don't only get behind the players when we are playing on the pitch. Also when we have difficulties in our own lives, they make an effort to send in a message. This has helped me a lot, especially at this time and is why I love England and West Ham so much. It is not just the team but everyone else behind the players, it is very special."
Faubert wore a black armband on Saturday in tribute to his mother, who had been ill with a brain tumour. He revealed there was no way he was going to miss playing, as it would have been something his mum would have wanted him to do.
"I definitely wanted to play. There was no question for me. This is what I wanted to do for my mum and for West Ham.She would have been saying, 'whatever happens, I want you to play'. She would say 'you have to go on, go forward with your life and with your football - you have a job to do and a son of your own to look after'. I am a professional footballer with a duty to West Ham. It was hard but I didn't want to let West Ham down either."
Faubert described his mother as a driving force for him as he grew up and followed his dreams of becoming a footballer. "My mother was an inspiration. She was the one there for me when I was growing up, I lived with her all the time and she supported me in every way, whether it was buying me boots or driving me to training or games.I was born in a poor area of Le Havre, so it was difficult and she made a lot of sacrifices for me. I know she is happy and proud of me and I have good memories.”
"It's a difficult time for me and my family, but I have my wife and son helping me through this as well as the fans and everyone here at West Ham. This will help me to go forward."

Well done Faubert. It's one thing thinking your mum would have wanted you to play, but another actually pulling on the shirt and running out to represent. Top man.
The millwall match sticks in my mind as being a moment he not only upped his game, but found a new respect for the fans. He seemed genuinely bowled over by the Hammers' faithful that night, probably by the passion, but also, funnily enough, by the extra support towards Jack Collison after losing his dad and turning out to play. |

Nice gesture, good to see he ahs fitted in better after a while here.. he was very good in Bordeux earlier I think he could be a very good winger ones again in a similar style to Bentley..
very right sided minded but can be verry effective if he is used well and he uses himself well ;) Has done a good job at right back but I am always a bit worried that jis defensive ability will be insufficient at times in the games but he has done well ..and he is improving ..but I still see him as a wide midfielder. |

Faubert seems like a really decent, genuine bloke. I feel really sorry for his loss. It's always hard losing someone close to you.
For the record, I think Faubert has had a pretty reasonable season - certainly a lot better than last year, anyway.
Defensively, he has improved massively on last year, although he still does get caught-out from time-to-time. However, he's a great long-passer of the ball and some of the crosses he pins-in are terrific; it's just a shame that there isn't always someone on the receiving end of them.
I'd like to see Faubert show the confidence in taking-on the opposition full-back more often though with his pace and power. His crosses will be more effective from near the byline than from far deep; as he often seems to do. |

Yep well done faubert for turning out on Saturday in what must have been difficult circumstances but the fact of the matter remains that he is still utter shit imho.
All this "he tries" & "he works his socks off" tosh. He's not very good at defending and most of his crosses are comical. |

His attitude from the start of the season has been outstanding - works his socks off. It was also clear that he put a huge amount of effort in over the summer to get himself into shape. Consummate team player.
I think he will go from strength to strength if we give him the support he deserves. |

Like him, even more so now. In a world of spoilt footballers not sacrificing anything for their astronomicall wages this guy deserves every ounce of our support.
In football terms we all know his limitations, but he has been asked to play in a position no really familiar to him and who knows with more experience and coaching we could eventually have a really good right back,
much love to him and his family. |

6 m for faubert is a joke
fair play for him playing despite his mum dying though, i can appreciate that, and the effort he put in against Blackburn was great and it was by far his best performance in a west ham shirt....but if someone showed me a video of that game BEFORE he joined 3 years ago saying this was his BEST game in a west ham shirt at RIGHT BACK.....i'd be gutted....and i still am. |

Faubert will only be one of the most fielded players because we have no choice but to keep him at the club because....
A) nobody else wanted him cos he's a crap right winger on big wages so we're forced to keep him
B) we have to play him right back every week cos Spector isn't good enough and we never replaced Neill
C) most of the other players have missed large parts of the season and he's remained fit |

Re: Faubert thanks the West Ham fans for their support |

We have bought players in who have been shit, no doubt about it, Faubert infuriates me, cos i know there is some quality but we just don't see enough of it. One minute he will pluck the ball out 60ft up in there next he will run it out of play. I think its a confidence issue with him, but he has a good run of games and even i will admit he has got a little better throughout the season. If he puts in performances like he did last saturday, i'm more than happy for him to remain as our regular right back. Long may it continue |

I said this before and i will say it again. People have issues and agendas with past/present/future players/managers/employees of West Ham United FC.
If they look hard enough and dig deep enough they will find something to moan about.
Every football fan thinks they are right, those that disagree are wrong, managers who play players they don't like are clueless, strikers who don't score 25 gaols a season are shit....etc etc
The list endless. |

Re: Faubert thanks the West Ham fans for their support |

Bit of both, for me Parker has been head and shoulders our best player, i'm surprised no official bids were made for him. I think Upson's form has been patchy, but then again i think our defence has been chopped and changed so much its not surprising. I don't think its any coincidence that we have only conceeded 1 goal in our last 3 games since we have kept the same back 4 |

I'd say it was the opposite Kenzo. People get on his back because of who signed him, and how much he was.

Mr Kenzo,
He is defended on here because he came with an excellent reputation looked big strong and fast but suffered a really big injury and came back to massive and immediate fan expectation.
I still think he would be an immense player for us by now if he hadn't have got injured.

Played well saturday, still very unconvincing, i am very critical of him because we have seen glimpses of what he can do, its just so frustrating not seeing him deliver on a regular basis. He put in a few decent balls against Blackburn, shame we had no-one in the box to put it away. |

It's sad our fans seem to have to have a hate figure in every team. I think we'd do a lot better if fans just got behind players during the match.
Spector has had it, Cole has had it, Kovac has had it, Julien has had it..... I wonder who is next on the list.
My guess is McCarthy after not scoring a hat trick on his debut. |
