The Positive & Negative Thread - Playoff Semi Final 2nd Leg

Typical West Ham. Just when you get to the point of getting totally fed up with football West Ham put in a performance full of quality and excitment that pull yo back in again.

This is by far the hardest Pos/Neg thread of the season because there are so many positives and I'm struggling to think of the negatives.... but here goes.

Positives:

WEMBERLEY WEMBERLEY We're the famous West Ham and we're going to Wemberley. Er.. We're going to Wembley. MAny fans including myself have never had the chance to see us at Wembley so this is a huge positive.

I am struggling to think of a more professional performance from a West Ham Side - Including the 1st leg. Team selection and tactics from the manager was spot on and the team work tirelessly to see the game out. After going 1 up it was great to see us be even more positive by going with 2 up front knowing that a further goal would kill it off - lovely seeing positive football.

Tempo and football was a joy to watch. Would love to have seen more of it throughout the season but at least it proves we can play it and gives hope for next season.

It is hard to pick out individual performances as I think nearly every player was top notch, but how great to see a right back that can play right back, The back 4 were all excellent with Reid and Tomkins looking every bit a premiership pairing but Demel coming into the team has help us look a really solid unit.

A Couple of great finishes from Vaz Te and Maynard and Taylors fist pumping celebration to the Cardiff fans for the first goal was great to see too.

The atmosphere was great. There was a danger of the fans thinking it was won already and being a bit subdued, but was really enjoyable hearing a cracking atmosphere for the whole game, partly because of the occasion and partly because of the excellent team performance.

We're going to Wembley!!!

Negatives:

Collison getting injured. Hopefully he'll be ok for the final.

My only (very) small moan was that Maynard could have been brought on earlier as Cole had one of his ineffective game and with the tie won it would have been a good opportunity to give Maynard playing time.

Summary:

I have been the first to criticise Sam for a number of mistakes this season so it's inly fair I stand up and say when I think he has been responsible for such a good performance. Tactically spot on and some really enjoyable football to boot.

In the very few games where teams have come and tried to win at Upton Park we have played well and that gives me huge optimism for next season as very few Premiership teams will come and be happy with a point like this season.

We're not there yet but one more game of that kind of tempo and energy and we will be a Premiers League Team.

Thanks for reading

Agree with P...

Definitely should have taken CFC off earlier...say 70 mins...to rest him and give Maynard more playing time...

Hope Vaz Te wasn't carring an injury...as we sure need him at Wembley...

Big positive was BFS' lineup & tactics

Great Game...

So good I watched it twice...Stream & TV replay...

Demel was a great positve. He's looked ponderous since he came in but yesterday was by comparison a MOM performance. If that is more representative, we have a proper right back and a very solid back four/five.

I don't just mean your last post I mean in general.

I'll be honest I get a little bored with you ignoring any kind of fact posted that proves your points wrong as you tread out the same tired refrain.

no offence

Dear G-d. In short BFS is not a miracle worker, he needed time that the other managers had & you can't compare our situation to those of any other recently promoted club bar Newcastle.

Sam has only been in the job this season, he had to overhaul & rebuild the squad, after the other clubs had more continuity than us and bar Newcastle nothing to lose, no pressure!
Also spending the most ammount of money deosn't gurantee that you'll win the most games.
Not difficult is it?

Just read this beauty

Dear West Ham you have bought promotion and how you never finished in the top two I don't know!

Best squad by a mile in the championship. How they finished in the play offs and not top two is bloody beyond me!

Yeah ok last year we had a very good squad and tried to buy the league but we had three stand out players. Bellamy, Bothroyd and Whitts.

West Ham have got a team that could hold it's own in the top half of the premiership and even if West Ham do get promoted via the play offs Sam Allardyce should have won the ****ing league.

They have a squad that is better than Southampton and Reading this season one that is miles better than ours last season, QPR's last season and a better squad than Newcastle two seasons ago and West Brom's two seasons ago.

Supporting Cardiff is bloody depressing!

Agree with all that polite, thought cole was gonna come off early doors in first half as he seemed to pull up, have to say though James Tomkins was truly immense yesterday, don't remember him getting beat to a ball once.
