My take on it.

First half altho we had most of the ball we did nothing with it, what they had of the ball they did much better in the final third. Having said that all 3 goals were shocking ones to give away.

Second half i thought we were excellent but obviously we threw caution to the wind and they backed off even more.

4th goal was again ridiculous and killed it but we attacked well and got the 2 back.

Clattenberg missed 2 obvious penalties with the push on Callieri and the blatent handball which is one of the worst decisions ive seen, how that wasnt a penalty i will never know.

Feghouli impressed me and for 20 minutes he looked unplayable.

But the defence needs sorting and fast. I hate centre backs playing at full back but midfielders playing there is even worse.

Obviously we need Cresswell back and Arbeloa will walk into the side. At centre back i would start Oggy but not sure who alongside him at the moment as Reid and Collins are both out of form. Maybe time to give Oxford a go.

We held possession to a great degree the entire game (which is something alien to us) and still ended up getting spanked from a scoreline perspective. We struggled in the final third but West Brom defended deep and it was difficult to break them down. That said, when we got one back you could see they were starting to look vunerable.

gph summed it up perfecrly for me yesterday. He said something like.....

We are not a shit side, but we are doing a damn good impersonation of one at the moment.

On another note, we through it away v Watford, but their result against Man U shows they are no mugs.

That is all. I'm hibernating until Wednesday now.

Football hurts.

Martyboy could be right. Been a few dodgy scores in Prem. This as happened elsewhere. Observation was first goal given away, second goal given away. Third goal was defence running out but Antonio decided to stay in, or no idea as not clued upon defending. Last goal given away. All 4 goals not created by WBA.
Kouyate is best bursting forward and attacking the area, not staying anchored in front of defence.
LS is a bigger pitch and wider where you can get on the line and attack the full back with speed as room to go by .

Someone said earlier our style is the flip side of allardyce. We're attacking but conceding. I don't accept that though. It would be one thing if we were seeing us constantly outnumbered in Defence, but what we've seen is one of the most mentally disciplined defences slip inexplicably into one of the least.

One positive is the fact we figured things out a bit after 60 minutes. Hopefully we can take some lessons from the nightmare beforehand

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-2

Are you sure that is true because I have heard from someone who knows Tomkins pretty well that he was told by the club last season that they would listen to offers for him over the summer as he was deemed to surplus in the clubs plans and if he wished to stay he would be behind a few youngsters in terms of opportunities for the new season, so he felt he little alternative but to move on when Palace's bid was accepted.

I was honestly wondering if there was any dodgy betting patterns reported yesterday? That penalty looked like he deliberately done that, just did not look natural. African and all that!!!

Cough,

Of our healthy strikers, they don't even have a shot on target

Has anyone noticed that we haven't had a goal scored by a named striker as of yet?

Collins - defender
Antonio - winger / RB
Lanzini - Midfielder

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-2
Deal.

Fair enough but how about thinking about what he has been doing for the team and bringing in an equivalent or better replacement. The point is that the club cashed in and did not bring in a proven premiership full back or centre half. Great deal on paper, bet Brady was well pleased. Shit decision in football teams.

Tomkins wanted to leave. You can't keep a player that is not happy at the club.

Don't understand people's problems with other fans leaving early.

Sure I'm not the only one who prefers drinking to football anyway, so can fully understand them wanting to get back to the pub sooner when 4-0 down. Or wanting to avoid the traffic considering in 24 years of the premiership, a 4-0 deficit has only been pegged back once.

Their money, can leave when they want.

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-2
Apart from zaza the spine of the team is exactly the same same 2 holding midfielders same 3 attacking midfielders same keeper. Last year a lot of our best performances were when we had little of the ball but hit teams on the break. Teams are letting us have the ball and we are not doing anything with it and they are hitting us on the break.

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 4-2
Master - the decision to let tomkins is strange? I think you're bring far too polite mate.

That sums up the management of the club imo. Cash is king, penny wise pound stupid. We have a weaker squad this season not a stronger one. They knew full well about the injury to cresswell and they went for a cheap replacement on the left and then decided Antonio could fill in at right back. Further unproven premiership shit has been added and the star signings that were promised were just fairy tales.

Last season was so good that proven premiership players like song and moses ended up on the bench. Perhaps because they were in the squad in the first place that moral & competition was so high. I'm sure the team must have benefitted from knowing a player like song was on the bench even if his form dipped.

Now, you look at the squad and it looks like a bottom half of table scrap.

Relying on the yids to lose to take the edge of a shit weekend.
