Obiang's effort doesn't count, because the number of xGs from his position is about zero.

No it wasn't.

If you're going to include that glaring miss, I counter with Obiang's smash against the crossbar

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
The Morrison headed chance was very big in xG terms - according to the model it's more likely for that one chance to lead to a goal than all our shots put together.

West Brom had worse shots on goal than us, only a very weak one that I remember?

Well yes, leading to a very low chance of us actually scoring a goal. That's what I'm criticising.

We sent numerous balls into their box. Without a creative player in the team what were you expecting? They were just very good at dealing with it.

Does anyone but Alex take any notice of the xG stat?

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
Just checked and Swansea's xG at Spurs was also worse than ours, so it's the third-worst expected goals performance in the premiership this season.

I'm talking about the expected goals stat - it's not judged by me.

There's so many instances of everyone being confused by what the hell is Bilic up to during a match.

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
Seeing Arnie coming on for the injured Collins, I cannot be the only fan assuming it'd switch to a 442 with chicharito up top and arnie on the left...instead Bilic pulls Zab to LCB and keeps chic out wide. Tactically very strange. I get that he wants to keep us compact and may not be open to the idea of starting with a Carroll & Chic pairing but this seemed the perfect chance to try it for 20 minutes knowing that one of them would be coming off after 75/80 minutes anyway.

We know Carroll causes confusion in the box and draws multiple defenders on to him and that Chicarito is one of the best goal poachers and has made a career out of being in the right place at the right time for knock downs/second balls etc. It seems We all know this...but it seems Bilic doesn't...?!

Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
Not sure how you've come to that conclusion Alex or how you are even able to judge?
Surely almost every team who has lost a game can be considered and West Brom too who were at home.
Have you watched the entire 90 mins of every game played so far?

>>> There was only one team looking to positively try and win and that was us.

If so, it was a terrible attempt. In terms of expected goals it was the second-worst team performance of the season, second to Brighton away at Leicester. Abysmal, basically.

Good post Alfs which sums it up. 6pts between 8th and 17th.

Don't expect any 200m+ min investment from the owners to join the PL 1st division

Swiss. 2:19 Mon Sep 18
Re: ⚽ WBA v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 0-0
Was a terrible game but I think a lot of the critism of West Ham is unfounded. There was only one team looking to positively try and win and that was us. WBA are terrible. We looked like the home team and they just parked the bus and looked for the counter but didn't even have anyone with pace enough to do that.

It's never easy playing against a team setup like that. Look at Liverpool v Burnley.

All I can say if I was WBA fan and was paying to turn up at home and watch that dire football I wouldn't be happy.

Very good post Alfs. Your observations are all correct but I'd add another. That environment of not losing has created a breed of manager like BFS and Tony Pulis that get to be revered for "surviving" for several years in the PL by boring the fans to death.
