Agree. Moyes' substitutions are always too late to affect the match, unless they're forced on him, ie Lanzini. And he keeps knackered/shit players on too long. ie Kouyate on Saturday.
_____

Was bizarre. players were dead on their feet and yet he was making no moves to even slow the game down. Everton fans have said his lack of tactical nous within a game was what stopped them from going to the next level. Having said that, when you have a bench thats as weak as we had, i can understand his point of view also.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Bournemouth - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
Not a bad point if we beat either Palace or Brighton and remain unbeaten

First half hour we blew them away they wasnt in the game at all but we need to score when we're on top of teams like that. The Arnie chance was a top top save but we should of been 1 or 2 up at ht

second half our intensity dipped.....maybe as a result of 120 mins midweek for some but thought Arnie's level dipped the most. Once Lanzini went off it was same old issue that has haunted us massivly last 6 weeks or so and that is the lack of goal threat or creativity from our central midfield players. We need a creative midfield player asap. Was surprised Haksobanovic wasnt on the bench as he could of provided a spark to try and win the game.

Hoping Lanzini and Cresswell knocks arent too bad as we are down to bare bare bones for Wigan away. I wouldnt play Arnie but doesnt look like there are many other options at the moment

Considering the amount of injuries we have and the extra time in midweek Moyes waits until we have an injury to Lanzini before making a substitution. Then another ridiculous one on 90 ,why wait until then.Cullen or Rice earlier would of given us fresh legs.
Are home form is still poor,to many points dropped against the lesser clubs.Respecting the point to often.

Sorry but that's just clueless moorethan...

And Infidel...you destroy your own point. A back 3/5 with no recognised strikers is fine when playing at home to the 'bigger' teams and away to the teams around us. At home against the teams we need to beat to preserve our premier league status it is suicidal. We only beat Huddersfield by virtue of a bizarre deflection, Swansea and West Brom through last minute goals by strikers and we lost to Brighton and Newcastle.

For all our interplay yesterday I'm struggling to think of Begovic having to make more than one save and we disnt deserve to win at all.

We will persist with this (and will continue to suffer) because one striker is made of glass, one is apparently a nut job but has been criminally overlooked, one is shit and the 4th doesn't fit our system. I thought it was priceless for Moyes to say that we should get more balls into the box for Hernandez when he only came on yesterday because the player most likely to play those balls went off injured.

Any talk off Hernandez "in the Lanzini role" is just farcical

Couldn’t have put it better myself Infidel

Chica in for Lanzini, Rice in for Cresswell and Byram in for Zaba against Palace

Creativity a concern with no Lanzini - maybe Arnie to drop a little deeper and link between midfield and Hernandez.

If we haven’t signed someone to help with that problem by then (haha!)

Kouyate joined in for the first half so on that basis it was a much improved effort this week, though he did tail off.

Thought Lewis Cook had a decent game for Bournemouth.
Not often you see an English 20 year old in central midfield in the PL.

i enjoyed the game, felt we should have won by a couple but in the end could have lost it as we tired at then end- if that makes sense

I thought we were patient, recycled the ball very well and covered just about every blade of grass

I know we have alot of injuries however we are in critical life support mode if arnie or lanzini drop out for three or more gamnes

Criminally short of players in my opinion.

Best player on the park was Nathan Ake- I though he was tremendous and saved a couple fo clear chances- maybe could have done better with our goal

How the fuck are the likes of Bournemouth investing £20M in a CB like that we all we pick up are out of contract/ elderly players - i.e why did we go for zabba and not bring a younger player into that position

Good analysis Infidel...
Need 14 points before safety...
Zabaleta not the answer as RWB...
Better under Moyes...
Bilic and staff lost the plot after 1st seadon...

Infidel

"We are out of trouble."

By the end of today, we could be just three points above the drop zone. No team from ninth downwards is out of trouble.

Zaba and Arthur he's found two wide players who also love to take on their man and provide some width.

Zaba - nope.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Bournemouth - The Official Match Thread FT 1-1
A lot of people on here are moaning about the absence of a striker.

They seem to have missed completely the tactical set up Moyes has created.

It's pretty clear that Moyes' preferred first XI doesn't have any classical striker position in it. But it's very far from being a negative, defensive 'park the bus' system.

With everyone fit he would play an attacking midfield three of Lanzini, Arnie and Antonio. These are players who love to run at opponents and are not afraid to carry the ball forward and take their man on.

In Zaba and Arthur he's found two wide players who also love to take on their man and provide some width.

As an aside, God knows what instructions Arthur was given by Bilic. Something along the lines of "none of that dribbling nonsense son- play it safe and go backwards whenever you can ". Given license to have some fun with the ball at his feet he's a completely different player under Moyes - and a joy to watch. Dare I say he's a proper West Ham entertainer from the old school.

These players are expected to work hard and track back- something they all do pretty well as far as I can see. There are no out and out strikers. There is also none of the laziness we saw with Payet, who seemed to think it wasn't his job to help out when we were under pressure. You'll find Lanzini and Arnautovic pressing just as hard as anyone else.

This system is especially effective against bigger clubs where we spend a lot of time in our own half defending, because it's essentially a counter attacking system. That front three can speed up the pitch pinging the ball around between them and catch opponents off guard.

It's a joy to watch too - counter attacking football is beautiful game stuff.

Against less ambitious opponents it's less effective - we have to carry the game to them and unpick defences where everyone on the other team is behind the ball. It was encouraging to see how we did that yesterday in the first half when Bournemouth were just soaking up the pressure. We created some excellent chances that on another day Arnie would have finished.

Injuries have created a headache for Moyes, and especially Antonio, who is a vital cog in the machine. With Lanz out it will become even harder to play the way the manager wants to. There are not many players who have the pace and the ability to make the system work. We are lucky to have the five we do - and Moyes has used good judgement in arriving at the club and identifying a system that makes good use of the players we have.

As I said in an earlier post, it's important also to see what we are not doing. We have been hoofing it up aimlessly to a big man for far too much of the last ten years and under Moyes that sort of anti-football seems to have been put to the sword at last. We are entertaining to watch much of the time and we don't automatically pass backwards as we did pretty much all the time under Bilic and Allardyce.

The players seem to enjoy playing the way we do now. Of course they do - they didn't become footballers to shut down games and play it safe. They want to enjoy themselves.

One big question for me is whether Chicha can re-cast himself as a replacement for Lanzini at least for the next few weeks. With Antonio out we are a man down in our Plan A system.

We saw yesterday that Kouyate was pushed forward to play in Antonio's role down the right. That isn't Chekhou's game, and actually he did creditably well considering he was in such an unfamiliar position. People slagging him off on here have obviously never turned up on a Sunday morning to be told by the skipper to play in a completely different position because someone hasn't turned up. It ain't easy.

I disagree with all the calls for a striker to be brought in. I would like to us to stick with this game plan and buy more players who can run at opponents at pace, to create some competition for places and cover for injuries.

I would also like to see some of the current squad moved out because they simply have no way to play in the system. Ayew for example is way too slow and nervous running at his man to make any sort of useful contribution. He should be shipped out.

But overall this is good progress. We are harder to beat. We are out of trouble. We are entertaining much of the time. The atmosphere at the LS (so I am told) is much better. What more could we ask for from Moyes at this point ?

We were fine until Lanzini went off, it was then a different ball game until we were struggleing to hold on the the point at the end.
