"I didn’t mention any scores IOC, you did I believe? "

?

"If we think we’re gonna outscore teams and win 4-3 3-2 or whatever then we’re in for disappointment I’m afraid"

You then said it puts a lot of pressure on us to score 2 or 3 goals but our wins normally came that way and so did a lot our draws.

We won 1-0 twice and had a 0-0 once and finished mid-table.

Of course it is risky strategy, if we wanted a "safe" one we could try a different manager. But we still got tonked once in while and really haven't averaged better results with safer managers.

As I said let's see where we are at Christmas at least.

I just said that as a game plan, its an extremely risky strategy, we’ve seen how we struggle to break down defence minded teams without giving them a goal head start and something to hang on to.
Maybe having Haller, who looks a proper CF will help overcome this but it’s a massive gamble for me.

I think Diop will be better than Balbuena.

But Diop makes more mistakes than Balbuena. But he seems to cut them out playing alongside Balbuena (this pre season and Man City game aside).

I thought that was something most people thought.

Still, it's all about opinions, eh.

Yes I’m saying he’s average.

I don’t think there would be a huge number of clubs desperate to take him off our hands.

I think what a lot of you forget as well, is that we're going for 7 at a push, 6th we're not going for Champoins League

Now don't get me wrong, the aim is to win every game and not concede.

But, you are all talking like we should be keeping clean sheets every other game - that's not happening till we start spending at 20 million on each defender.

We have the capability for cutting out the drubbings we've suffered. But other than that, you have to be a bit more realistic with what we have.

Goose,

Are saying Balbuena is average? Aside from him being very good, he actually helps Diop play better.

We shall see, IOC.

We can defend well, it's just the consistency.

I counted up games where we conceded 1 goal or less in the league.

It was 21 games. Should have been 23 if the officials did their job properly against Man U and Leicester.

We need to cut out the odd capitulations and hopefully, we'll score more because we don't have a whining greed cunt upfront downing tools.

The major worry, for me, is when the injuries come in. Then we end up having to struggle. Which brings me back to the point I made earlier about how the squad would have been much stronger now, had the investment been made as soon as we was in the new stadium.

"aside from Diop that back 4 is very average."

And if they remain average this season and the front five is excellent we will have progressed from being an average team overall.

And that might happen and that when you question the manager for me. When you assess the season at the end.

If some emergency happens and we in real relegation trouble at Christmas then of course before that.

But he has strengthened where he wanted to strengthen and now let's see what results he can provide over at least a few months.

i dont think we will progress.
we might put a few nice passing moves together but we'll give it away and concede too many.
aside from Diop that back 4 is very average.

It wasn't a broken clock scenario, you happened to give two scores we won by. There were a lot more.

The majority of our points came in games when the other team score at least a goal.

And we did okay for a first year manager and compared to the year before. We now have build on that.

I said a lot of the rest in my post just before this one.

RJ,

It's a bit of stretch to call Obiang a defensive midfielder.

He was a bit of a jack of all trades.

But I'll give you that he's more defensive than Formals.

I agree but at the end of the day, whatever the wash does defensively, the way our manager wants to play and has played in the past, means we will have score multiple goals to win.

I am okay with that as long as we are making some kind of progress.
The end of season and the cups will tell me.

Irons

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, of course it will happen occasionally but as a game plan it’s madness, knowing you have to score 2 or 3 to win puts too much pressure on the team.
Yes we have weakened the defence, we’ve sold a defensive mid and replaced him with an attacking mid, I’m sure as a player it’s an upgrade but it wasn’t what was required.

For me, I feel like the General is not back to his best since the Copa America. Struggling for fitness.

Which has maybe then had a knock on effect on Diop.

Fabianski wasn't he's usual assured self, either. Probably because of missing the couple of pre season games.

Hopefully, it'll all come out in the wash.

The league is both both more competitive and more stretched than ever before.

The group we are looking to be the head of is very competitive

The upper reaches is farther away than ever.

So if we don't show up against any team we get spanked and if we do, we still can against some teams.

I think RJ is right, you cannot just assume we will out score the opposition in the PL.

I just don’t get why we’ve done nothing in the market to stop us conceding goals.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Man City - Official Match Thread FT 0-5
RJ,

I hear what your saying.

But, to be fair, we have had games where we've looked and been solid, too.

Man City away and the Liverpool at home spring to mind. We can do it, just have to do it more often.

I think our biggest problem, is the fact that the league is so competitive now. Our squad is full of good players ( although we can always improve, of course). But so is the rest of the top 10.

As soon as we were in the new stadium, the investment should have been there. By now our squad would have easily been good enough to qualify for 7th. We could and should have been ahead of Everton, Leicester or Wolves.

We still can be ahead of them, but it's that much harder. Imagine if we had built a team around Payet, we would be in a much stronger position, by now. He was a prick for the way he behaved, but can we really blame him for fucking off.

Anyway, I just hope them players are annoyed at what happened on Saturday and put it right against Brighton.

"If we think we’re gonna outscore teams and win 4-3 3-2 or whatever then we’re in for disappointment I’m afraid."

What makes you say that? We did it last year. 4-3 (Huddersfield) 3-2 (Palace). We won two games all season 1-0.

Have we weakened our offence?
