David Gold : businessman of the year!

He's sold the oldest FA Cup for £760,000 according to Reuters.

Bought 15 years ago for £478,000. Take inflation and auction fees into account and that's a massive LOSS! Still accepted the bid.

What a hapless sod. Piss broke, obviously. Maybe he's asked for cash in coins for the electric meter. Everything they touch turns to shit. The end.

Peoples needs and views DO change over time, even the rich and (more) powerful ones.

What was important (to him) then may be less so now and he may have other needs for the money he had tied up in it. He has no need to seek ANYBODY'S permission to release his assets.

If anybody else felt the same way now as he did then, they had the perfect chance to show those beliefs at the auction.

The government clearly felt it not important enough to intervene.

I'm surprised it was worth anything considering the amount of times he's thrown it.

Re: David Gold : businessman of the year!
Yes there is.

He made a right hullabaloo all those years ago and was very insistent about buying it and being some kind of last throw due to his generosity and sense of tradition to keep that F.A. Cup on these shores.

If he has now sold it to somebody abroad then it shows him as being the utter hypocrite and person that you could put no trust whatsoever in that he is.

Some of you lot really need to do some fact checking, this cup he has owned for last 15 years has been loaned to the national football museum!!!!
He's done nothing wrong here, it's seems no matter what he does he gets slagged off!

Yep - cashflow is the real big killer.

You might well own a 500,000 quid Roller but if you can't afford the fuel to run, tax & service it then it's pretty much an exhibit, rusting away in your garage.

That's 500,000 pounds tied up that you can't use on something else.

Yeah they are wealthy even if they lose over half their wealth but this looks like the problem every business has .... cash flow. He might be worth a lot but is it tied up in dildos, property etc... ?

That's an old cup isn't it?

When was that last used, at the 1923 cup final, when grand old man Allardyce had his fans encroach on the pitch to stop us getting forward?

Re: David Gold : businessman of the year!
I wonder how many times he's picked that cup up and ran around his front room imagining it to be Wembley?

can picture that as all part of his after dinner japes

Re: David Gold : businessman of the year!
assuming that he is worth £500m and that is accounted for by including his shares within West Ham it would be interesting to know what valuation of West Ham they are using.

If its the £800m that the buxom Baroness bitch uses then his 34% equates to £272m meaning the club aside he is worth £228m, great for anyone to have achieved but in the modern game it simply isn't enough to be the owner of a Premier League team. Something of which we are all aware.

If they made a ‘rusty bucket’ they wouldn’t be in the financial mess they are

Rusty Bucket?

Is that one of their toys?

It was poor fishing on my part. Didn't even do any sums. However, some get the point. He's flogged something that he's said he values very highly and proudly *, for peanuts, possibly a loss. I dunno.

It's not even raised a significant amount for his daughter's business. Assume he needs CASH pretty sharpish (despite the interest paid by WHU on loans)? Not assets. Hope it accelerates his sale of shares and leaves one lonely dildo and his cnut. FIRESALE!!!

* He could have been lying, of course. But I'm not having that!

Ann Summers is leaking money like a rusty bucket so he needs to keep propping it up to keep it from going under. He has some money in property but most of the rest is in WHU, which provides very little ongoing profit. Hopefully he'll need to sell his WHU shares soon as well.

Why with all your millions would you sell a piece of history like that.

Gold wouldn’t have sold it to clear up the cupboard. He’s mentioned it a number of times, it was clearly precious to him.

Re: David Gold : businessman of the year!
This is no different to going through your cupboard, finding something that's been in there for 15 years that is worth a few bob and sticking it on ebay. Someone else can enjoy it and the money goes in the pot. You don't need to be broke, just tidying up business

I do it all the time.

Anyone know Approx. how much he would have got if he put £478k in a high interest account 15 years ago?

Re: David Gold : businessman of the year!
Interesting that a bloke worth 500 mil would sell a prized possession for a relatively small number though innit? Not going to.make much of an impression in his Scrooge McDuck-esque swimming pool full of money is it? Unless the pool has been leaking away....

Pikey - This is a fucking car crash. You are actually attempting to financially belittle a bloke worth approx 500 mil, that is laughable even my this fucking forums standards. I bet you wished you was as 'broke' as he was.
