I think Noble will be 'hanging around' this season, but then again it looks like Yarmalenko will be as well. It would have been a bit sad had Noble's last season been with no crowds so I don't begrudge him a proper last season, but would prefer not to see too much of him on the park.

Noble is statistically the 2nd best penalty taker in the world over past 20 years. And I've long been a fan of his.

However he should not get on the pitch any more. He's simply too slow. As a team we looked much worse when he played last year. I'm glad he's working well behind the scenes, but I don't want to see him playing anymore. He should be behind rice and soucek (obvs), Coventry and even lanzini in that role.

Noble can still provide a killer pass forward, he's a great tackler and doesn't give a fuck about his opta stats.

Tell me a better player at taking penalties over the last, what, 10 seasons and I will gladly defer.

Sometimes you don't appreciate a player (especially a no nonsense holding midfielder) until he's gone.

I hope that he plays in many games due to not very serious injuries this season as he has a point to prove (which is pretty mad) and leaves the field of play in glory.

A great servant of the club we all love

There’s a reason why Noble has played for us for so many years under so many different managers. Absolutely no need to knock him just because we’re doing well without him in the starting eleven right now.

He’s still doing plenty off the pitch and having a massive influence.

Capitol Man - I notice that you don't disagree with my comment though.

Another of Moyes positives is that the team doesnt turn up its toes at the first set back.
How many times previously would we have gone behind twice in front of 50,000 opposition fans and fight back and win by 2 clear goals?

Defence still needs work (Dawson has done brilliantly but he is and should be a 4th choice back up) but we work hard and have goals in the team.
Loving the likes of Soucek, Coufal & Fornals and hopefully this season Bowen and Benrahma step up another level.
Big test on Monday v Leicester though

Antonio will be pretty useless for us if he doesn't make a habit of chasing the ball.

Peach of a cross by Antonio but still hope he doesn't make a habit of it .

Every time I look at it i expect him to sitting on the ground afterwards waving his hand in the air.

With little scope to slag off any players after such a cracking performance AOI still manages to dig up a way to dig at Noble.

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-4
What's great about this side is that the front six are all so positive going forward. And the middle defensive three - Rice, Soucek and Fornals are great at reposession and then seeing and making an early pass to a frontrunner.
I think this is the key to the Moyes method. There's no sign of us fannying about in midfield and keeping possession just for the sake of it. We move forward at pace whenever the opportunity arises.

Compare this with how things were with Nobes in the side, with his constant sideways and backwards passing, always slowing up any kind of progress we might make.

Agree about fornals. He's taken a lot of cunting over the last couple of years and I've never understood why. Took a few months to settle granted but a cracking player.

Fornals is different class. Always has been. I don’t even give a shit that he misses the odd chance. He does more than enough.

That pass from Fornals to Coufal in the lead up to the penalty was absolutely top-drawer. Such an underrated player.

I'd like to know why Ritchie wasn't sent off. The amount of high challenges he put in and the amount of time he injured our players

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-4
I have to admit that I was surprised that we were given a penalty because we rarely get them given in our favour

When played back it looked a bit harsh but we've had plenty like that given against us over the last few seasons

I definitely don't agree that it was the pivotal point in the game though. That's nonsense and a pretty feeble excuse

The pivotal point was when we got the second equaliser. After that, we suddenly had an extra spring
in our step and a visible boost in confidence

It was just a question of time before we went ahead as we duly did

It was also after the second equaliser that Saint-Maximin started to look much less of a threat as he was getting forced back on the defensive

Thing is if the ref had not blown up wasn't one of our players about to put it into the top corner of the net.

Re: ⚽ Newcastle v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-4
Regardless of it being a penalty or not it was great to see little Pablo try and play on and not making a big fuss of it.

Yesterday felt like a bit of a watershed moment. I said before the game that we'd have to score because Wilson always seems to score against us but first game of the season we usually lose, we normally lose against Newcastle (another bogie team) and we went behind twice.

Fantastic stuff.

Been on a couple of Newcastle forums and besides whinging about the penalty their manager is not very popular and a lot of them think that they'll get relegated. It's nice to see that we won't be handing over the usual 6 points a season they expect.

Burns - That is my view too, I couldn't see it properly and still none the wiser. But who cares anyway.

Anyway, good to see the remit from the Euro's is being carried over and refs are letting more go now, also think refs won't brandish yellow cards so easily either. This and the lino's putting the flag up earlier for offside should also add to the enjoyment.

Looked like the classic Bruno Fernandes / Mohammed Salah pen to me.
I guess thats what US European teams get when playing against lowly teams.
More please
