Jack Harrison certainly looked the part on Sunday against us but prior to that game Leeds had managed to score an average of a goal a game and coceeded an average of two goals a game Hence only 4 wins in the premier league , so whilst playing with tremendous energy and pace they dont win many football matches

Given how poor we were, It will be interesting to see how they and Harrison in particular fare in the games to come.

You must’ve needed a pair of binoculars watching a football match at the Yankee Stadium.

I’ve nothing but praise for Moyes, how he’s turned the club around and made us a genuine top 8 side. But when even Sullivan is getting frustrated at his lack of action in the transfer market then that says it all. Stevie Wonder can see we need an additional striker, I can’t believe Moyes can’t find one other striker he considers good enough for our club

Moyes has lost a lot of credibility on my book. I heard he said he knew Antonio was knackered but had to keep him on. Well if he had bought a fucking striker over a year ago then we wouldn’t have had this issue

last football game I went to was back in 2018 in New York at Yankee stadium... NYC v New England Revolutions... some big old stars that day... Lampard, Pirlo, David Villa... but the one player that stood out head and shoulders above them all was a certain Jack Harrison... said on here would be worth having a pop to see if we could get him... he certainly looked the part on Sunday

As much as I loved UP, it wasn’t a fortress either.

Stewie - One thing we can safely say is that the London stadium is not a fortress with this home from. As I said, if you can't win, then make sure you don't lose. Some awful home defeats, and come what May that is what is going to cost us. You build your season around the home bankers, then look to pick up points elsewhere. If not, you are always chasing your tail.

"To lose at home to three bottom half sides like we have is simply nowhere near good enough"

agreed, Manners - a lot of talk about injuries, fatigue etc, but we lost to Brentford & drew at home to Palace & Brighton when none of that was an issue.

All in, that's 2 points from 15 at home against Palace, Brighton, Brentford, Southampton & Leeds. As you say, just not quite good enough unfortunately.

Re. Sunday, fwiw, i thought we were similarly lethargic and flat against Norwich. They are just unbelievably shit, so turning it on for 10 minutes here and there was enough to win the game comfortably. Leeds aren't great, but one thing you can't be against them is flat.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Leeds - Official Match Thread
I was really surprised we went with the same stating XI as the Norwich game when the likes of Vlasic and Antonio looked knackered in that game too.lanzini and rice in the middle was unlikely to work against Leeds pressing the way they do, and what surprised me was moyes not changing anything at half time. He could have brought masuaku or fredericks on and gone to a back 3. He could have brought kral on to hold in front of the defence

I’m also still baffled as to what oko flex needs to do to get some minutes at the end of a game we are chasing/already winning. He could have come on against Norwich when we went 2 up. He certainly could have offered something on Sunday

The people that are criticising those that are
pointing out our foibles from Sunday are something else. We have every right to expect we should have won this game.
We have set standards now - everyone is talking up our Top 4 chances from owners to the jock to the players. Bottom line is it’s unacceptable we lost this game because of the
mistakes. This is our big opportunity- we blew it last year too - we’ll likely do the same this year. Nothing wrong with being ambitious
- we’ve waited a long time to get here. Sorry if
it doesn’t fit the mindset of some who think we’ve got to be overjoyed with just staying in the Prem.

I agree, AOI.

It wouldn't have been so bad if he was setting up or banging in goals when he gets forward. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he adds that to his game, though.

Save the Roy of the Rovers stuff for when Soucek and the defence is more stable.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Leeds - Official Match Thread
On reflection I think one of the biggest problems in the game was Rice charging forward far too much. In the absence of Soucek, Rice should adopt more of a defensive game.

Playing the way he did allowed Leeds far too much midfield space, which they duly exploited, to our cost. Moyse can't rely on Lanzini to plug the gap. Defending isn't his strength.

But as for Rice, one of his major strengths is reading the opposition and then breaking up their play with interceptions or timely tackles. This then allows him to release the forwards to make swift counter attacks which we've been so good at the last year or so.

I think he needs to cut down a bit on rampaging forward and concentrate on what he's really good at and which makes the team more effective.

I love Moyes but make you 100% right H&P.

We could have lost this one with them scoring 5 or 6.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Leeds - Official Match Thread
There was a point in the second half when, just prior to their third, Fabiański lobbed out under no pressure whatsoever over our back line. The Jam Roll commentator said something along the lines of "this is West Ham's way of playing - I don't think there's anyone else doing it right now" as we were treated to a pinball-type spell that completely failed to open Leeds up. A few minutes later Vlasić was the fall-guy when his ball wasn't inch-perfect and our flat defence simply could not cope with closing them down and the game was essentially lost. It was all so inevitable, and then there were the substitutions.

Really painful to watch as it is obvious we were not interested in taking them on properly from the start. I we had been, Fornals would have been receiving the ball at least from Fabianski and have plenty of options ahead as players like Lanzini run into space. As it was, Lanzini only got forward and more into the game once Fornals was in his tracksuit again. We were very lucky not to lose this by a much bigger margin; imho Moyes has to shoulder a big portion of blame for it.

Yeah that Bowen miss was hard to take.

On reflection, a point wouldn’t have been a bad result at all against a much fresher Leeds side. That lost point might make all the difference come the end of the season.

" but it was a lot harder than it looked"

Leave off! it was alot harder to stick it over the bar from a yard out then let hit any part of him and just trickle in. Its easily miss of the season so far and one of our worst ever. he has been superb lately but that was an absolute stinker moment
