I have thought for a while that Soucek is playing in the shadow of Declan, when he had license to go forward at Watford he is much more dangerous than Declan, don't get me wrong I think Rice's driving runs have improved immeasurably this last year !

I would like to see them mix it up and interchange this role of holding while the other goes forward, it will also create confusion for the opposition !

COYI let's beat palace and establish our top 6 place !

Excellent 3 points against a weak Watford…

Why did we miss Dennis as striker buy…?..

Dawson has been outstanding value for money, he has his faults but he's proved a very good signing.

Great result albeit against a poor Watford side. Hopefully we are over our little wobble. Antonio and Super Tom back on the score sheet, Benny hitting a brace (pity he is off for a month to the AFCON) and Vlasic getting his first goal all in the past two games.

"I still don't understand why Alese is not tried out at all."

Aerial ability. Or lack of it. If he's to make it at Prem level he needs to make a serious improvement on that part of his game from what I saw in that Europa game.

We should have sold Diop yonks ago, while we would still have got our money back, but we won't now. Lacks defensive instinct. Dawson is the exact opposite, and you can see he is a proper leader when he plays.

Manuel this 100%

Soucek's lack of scoring more due to bad finishing than Rice

''Soucek has to stay in that more attacking role of the 2 and let Rice sit''

Totally disagree. Rice's driving runs are becoming a real asset and will only get better when he fine tunes his passes, shots at goals etc. He is far too good to stifle him and just let him 'sit'. He is no no longer just a DM.

I still don't understand why Alese is not tried out at all.
He's no that young and has had a great season for the U23's.

Watford were poor yesterday, but there has been recent debate and ‘excuses’ about our energy levels.
Was there any tiredness out there yesterday. I could not see any, but again has Watford’s ‘rest’ put them back some weeks?

Great performance, Bowen and Noble in particular were superb. Antonio looked alot sharper. Soucek has to stay in that more attacking role of the 2 and let Rice sit.......it works better for the team

Diop and Dawson could of been punished a bit more against a better team, couldnt believe how bad Watford were.......fans were almost as bad as the players. Never seen a home end sit and take so much stick.

Away end was very loud, a great day all round after the shambles against Southampton

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-4
I think most people would agree that Diop was looking okay as a backup CB until this month (when Masuaku came back into the side).

Of Diop's 13 starts, 8 of them have been with Cresswell or Johnson at LB and we won 7 and drew 1. Of the 5 with Masuaku it's been W1 L3 D1.

Obviously they're not all against the same opposition, but the non-Masuaku games include wins vs Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd and the with Masuaku losses were vs Arsenal, Spurs and Soton.

I should have added, with Creswell's predicament, a new LB obviously wouldn't go amiss.

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 1-4
This constant moaning about the centre backs is as much to do with the full backs being swapped about due to injuries as well. They are obviously more cautious and therefore dropping back a metre which makes our game less confident in general when defending as a unit. Our midfield and attack still looks to stay on the offensive whilst our defence has dropped back so there is more ground to cover for the midfield pairing and there is more gaps as a whole. Even Coufal has been exposed at times, where usually he’d have better cover.

When your defence has this many injuries and changes you have to expect to have a cautious defence which causes gaps as a team.

What I can't understand is, why is Dawson not played on his wrong side, instead of Diop.

Now, I stick up for Diop, as I think when playing at his best, he's a very good defender - potentially a lot better than Dawson (Diop has played far more top flight football than Dawson had, at his age).

However, Diop is a nervous fucker at times - opposite to Dawson, (who has been a very good signing) See with Dawson, even if something goes wrong for him, he's still calm and doesn't panic.

For that reason, surely, it would benefit the defence as a whole, if Dawson played on his 'wrongside, instead.

I'd also add, thinking more about it, ideally, if we can bring in another CB in January that would be very good. Problem is, you'd much rather, the player to be 1st choice material, and that might mean eating into the striker budget ( I'm realistic to know that the board probably aren't going to pay top dollar for both Striker and CB this window).

“Considering our 1st and 2nd choice are unfit, these two are exactly where they should be right now. Can't decide whether that statement is a wind up or you don't understand our squad.”

The point I’m making is that it’s rare to have both your first choice CBs injured at the same time.

Both players are fine deputising, but neither would usually be starting regularly.

Dawson has been much better than anyone expected and as 4th choice he should maybe be starting 10-12 games a season.
Probably will end up with 40+ this season the way he is going so am reluctant to criticise him.
Need to find someone in January to take the pressure off him

Re: ⚽ Watford v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Dawson is a very good 3rd or 4th choice centre half, same for Diop.

Neither of them should be starting every week though.

in a season , half gone, full of bizarre and inconsistent reffing, this was just right up there. I saw him ref recently and he has the look of a 14 year old who's reffing the bitterly fought out lags eleven v dog & duck county cup final- petrified from the start. Surely elite refs should be subject to questions/abuse on the management of the game i.e when the first booking is made, letting advantages run, time keeping etc- what we had yesterday was ref incapable of the most basic of reffing - the antonio " foul" when he was clattered into by a watford palyer; the soucek " foul" . the inabiliity to see bowen get clattered in front of him- i could go on....the prem refs association have reverted to their old " if he's a hair out hes offside " and penalising tiny contacts and coming togther. Great to see spurs be on the wrong end of three decisions yesterday tho!

Dawson is a difficult call, in a game he both makes some excellent goal saving tackles and some bloomers to let them score. Problem is, two games a week is too much for him.
