Gotta laugh at all the "Antonio is thick" judgements from the site intelligentsia.

Yes it was a stonewall penalty...IF you ignore the stonewall foul Grielish committed on Coufal in the middle of the box as the ball was played through and before Dawson had made the challenge.

That was the clear and obvious error that VAR should have picked up on and given a free kick to us!

Really enjoyed yesterday.

If Bowen squares it rather than putting it in the side netting or Antonio takes his chance, we go 3-1 and we win that game.

I had 3-2 at 40-1 I really felt we would win it.

Ultimately Man City are an amazing side so to get a point is a good result. Deflected goal and an OG was how we conceded.

Been critical of him but thought Soucek was better yesterday put a good defensive shift in.

The whole team worked hard and we have given ourselves an extra outside chance with that point. We win and we only need a draw in the Man U game, better than just needing them to lose.

Lovely send off for Noble, great to see such a packed crown stay.

ECL at least secured.

Atmosphere was rocking for large parts yesterday too.

Positive day for the fans, players and football club.

How about having ALL our PL games reffed by referees from Germany, Italy, Spain. Netherlands & France?

The bias might then swing in favour of PL teams they DON'T want to see in Europe next season.

The UK can, naturally send it's best refs to their leagues in reciprocation.

Fucking loved yesterday. Was the third game I'd taken my lad to and when that penalty was saved I just copped the joy in his face and thought 'yup, there's a Hammer.'
Poor little sod.

Really impressive how virtually the whole stadium stayed for the after match presentation too.

Antonio lets himself down as he hasn't got the brain capacity or nous to 'win' fouls in situations where its the best outcome. Sheringham was probably the best at it for us, Shearer was the king.

If he hasn't learnt how to do it at 32 then he probably never will

I think it's a bit of a vicious circle. He gets punished for being fouled yet staying on his feet, and also being fouled and left on the ground, but not making a meal of it, so then he has to start with theatrics to try and draw attention to it, which I think isn't a great look for a man of his size and power, but the crux of the matter is he gets fouled a hell of a lot and gets nothing.

The likes of Salah and Grealish do at a lot more gracefully (almost like they've been taught or encouraged. hmmm...) but the fact of the matter is that a select few sides get huge help from all referees both with getting away with foul play, and winning free kicks where there is none, or very minimal foul play.

I'd love to know the psychology of why this happens with virtually all referees. Are the big teams just better at conning them, or is there some sort of thought that all the players are so good they couldn't possibly be dirty, but other teams have to resort to fouling them also as a consequence?

Also does the ref from yesterday look back at the match properly, and think 'yeah, i did a great job of calling that one right down the line' with their own confirmation bias and seeing what they want to see, OR do they think 'Yeah, I got that a bit wrong.' Trouble is that it's an old boys club. Someone impartial needs to rewatch matches with them and ask them to talk through their decision making processes throughout. There can't be anyone neutral who would rewatch that and think he did a good job?

Exactly. Were it liverpool yesterday dropping two points, instead of doing that, I should think klopp would have complained about the weather conditions not being right, it not being fair that it was Noble's last home game, the fixture being moved, the wrong kind of paint being used to mark out the pitch, Fabianski having the nerve to save a penalty etc.

"I find all the Ref whining etc a bit of a distraction and embarrassing."

Same here. The ref didn't fall for Antonio's diving and didn't give a stonewall penalty to Manchester City in the second half, which VAR correctly overturned.

Some of our supporters just love to moan about hard done by they think we are. Reminds me of Liverpool fans sometimes!

Great performance. Take one of the other great chances we created and we can be out of sight. I find all the Ref whining etc a bit of a distraction and embarrassing.

The referee question is not whether Taylor becomes the worst ref in the premiership once the garbage that is Moss and Dean have gone but how the hell was he picked to ref this match!

A mancunian who allegedly supports manu is selected to ref a match which will have a massive influence on where the two manc teams finish in the table, it defies belief. Is the game so corrupt now that those who administer/control it couldn't give a damn as long as the top six not only finish there but compete in both domestic cup finals?

"Why can we not play this well against the shit teams like Brighton Brentford"

Because Liverpool and Man City will always play attacking football with a high line as they have the players and it's beneath them to do otherwise.

Then we can play counter etc.. which suits us.

Lower teams are more defensive and we find it harder to break them down. Thats all it is really.

The victims and Man City are two of the best teams in the world. We've Knocked City out of the cup and drawn with them and beaten the bin dippers. Why can we not play this well against the shit teams like Brighton Brentford etc?

watching fernandinho yesterday was like a throwback to when defenders had license to kick the fuck out of forwards for ninety minutes. rodrigo took similar liberties throwing his weight about at set pieces, anthony taylor truly is a cunt

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Man City - Official Match Thread FT 2-2
Perhaps because, as others have said, Antonio's diving is brainless and lacks 'cuteness' (much like him as a footballer overall).

Salah, Kane, Son etc. all know how to dive in a way to con the refs (helped of course by playing for 'big six' media darling clubs).

Antonio's attempts at diving are pathetic, so no wonder he gets short shrift from referees.

How can anyone call Antonio a diver?
He takes far more physical punishment than the likes of Son, Kane, Grealish etc. and has maybe learned from them and playing in Europe that going down gets results. Unfortunately in his case it appears not to be the case.
