Sir Ian Blackford stepping down as leader of the SNP in Westminster.

Thank fuck for that. He must be the most boring speaker ever, and always seemed to be parroting the Labour party's questions at PMQ. I always used to go and put the kettle on when he stood up.

Not the point ray. If you have socialist leanings surely any true socialist would refuse honours that make them special sirs, lords or be a Member (MBE) or take the Order of British Empire (OBE)?
I wonder if you realise that Karl Marx was a rich man that sponged off his equally bourgeoise mate Engles who stole from the family business to sponsor Marx?
Both of them were rich with their own stables of fine horses and riding to the hounds. Marx especially sent his daughters to be privately educated and from such firm foundations, socialism developed....
Human nature is human nature ray.

I believe the sentiment is that they feel they can have more influence* "from within" rather than "from without".
* - as well as yet more free money and other (non-cash) privileges.

Why do all these socialist /Labour Party officials happily take these awards, Sir, OBE, MBE even lordship but still claim to be good old working class heroes.

Johnson, why on Earth would I lie about being on holiday? Surely if I wanted to impress you divs I’d at least come up with a more salubrious location than a soggy Gran Canaria. You do make me smile.

‘Failings’? I’m currently in the Canary Islands enjoying my 5th holiday this year, if that’s deemed as ‘failure’ then maybe you need to change your mindset but being a curmudgeonly old Tory who reads the Daily Mail all day, that probably ain’t gonna happen.

So by the look of that the SNP have gained a bit into the high 40%'s in elections but that still wouldn't be enough to give them the 50%+ needed in a straight YES/NO referendum. So England is stuck paying for the porridge wogs for a bit longer

In the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections the SNP won 48% of the vote and thus took 64 of the 129 seats in the assembly. TheSNP is thus a minority but as the party with the most votes Sturgeon was asked to form a government. The SNP retain power because the majority, by one seat, comprise Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem and Green.
To unseat the SNP that motley crew would have to join in opposition to vote the SNP down and it will never happen.
This all means that the SNP has to govern on a case by case basis, relying on the votes from different parts of the opposition, to make progress.

I see that in the 2014 referendum NO beat YES 55.3% to 44.7% Am not sure what the normal polling numbers are for the SNP are in the general election. Presumably they still win enough seats to 'govern' with 40 something %. Or do they get more than 50% across all the seats?
Personally I think if the Scots want another vote then let them BUT England should also be given a vote to leave at the same time and cast off these whining Celtic deadweights.

Fo - morning mate
I take a different view, the Scotchers are many things but stupid is not one of them, and they do like a free pound note (hence the Remain vote) They repeatedly elect a party whose primary objective is independence yet reject that when given the chance to take it Why? The English keep pouring leverage and cash their way in an effort to thwart the SNP - why shoot the goose that lays the golden egg? By any other metric the SNP are an absolute shambles but as I say, the Jocks are no fools

Like them or not, the SNP seems to stay very close to its electorate and has done for many years. Makes them almost unique in modern UK parliamentary times.
