Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
So the lad is 1st eleven for Brazil and goes on to have a very good game and scores. Yet Moyes can't get a performance out of him in a dozen games.

To the owners of our club - it's a bit silly now isn't it?

Get a right wing back, play Emerson as left wing backs, Rice, Downes and Paqueta the central midfield and Scamacca and either Bowen, Cornet, Benny or Bowen upfront in a 2 with 3 CBs or a 2 with back 4?

Even Waistcoat has worked that out for England but we are lacking a right wing back in the squad if we think Kehrer ain’t up to it? Equally we lack a left wing back if we find Emerson ain’t up to it?

But none of this will be tried. Moyes will always play the defensive pivot, a 4-2-3-1 formation, a Fellani type in midfield ( Soucek) and a goalkeeper who can’t play with his feet which may well be another problem because it don’t look like Areola is that comfortable passing the ball accurately either or is he just coached to launch it long like Fab?

Soon as you see Soucek on the team sheet against Arsenal , Fab in goal, Cresswell at LB and Paqueta as a number 10 and Scamacca the lone striker in his 4-2-3-1 formation, we will just count the days until we are in the bottom 3 and / or Moyes is sacked

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
Bilic’s first year aside, the uniformly shit standard of management at West Ham since Bonds and Lyall is truly a phenomenon. Surely this has to change now that there has been some serious investment in players like Paqueta and Scamacca, who have proper world class talent and experience of the highest standards of coaching and management. Let’s look on the bright side, we have to move on if we are to survive and the Daves’ days are numbered.

You can't judge anything on last night. Korea were shocking and gave Brazil all the space in the world to play and pass. There is not a team in the Premier league that would give you that space.
Perhaps the impressive thing about Brazil was not what they did with the space but the tempo and positive forward play. Always looking to go forward, always looking to create and play the ball quickly. Compare that with the static, rigid and defensive hoofball at West Ham and you of course will see a difference in outcome.

Moyes is 60 years old, there is not an ice cubes chance in a sauna that he changes how he sets teams up.

As I said, it's a match made in hell.

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
The main problem here is that it's pretty obvious that Paqueta should be playing deeper in Soucek's position. But they are very different players.

Does Moyes have the mindset to move away from the two blockers in Rice and Soucek and go with one of each. A blocker and a player?

I doubt it very much.

I meant about paqueta lacking an engine, not about Moyes taking responsibility, Moyes should definitely take the hit if this doesn't work out *

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
West Ham mangers over the years seem to try their hardest to buy players to tease the fans and say look we are trying.

Then play a different formation and them in a different position to where they have been successful before.

Just to prove to us they know more than we do.

Watch this world cup and where his strengths and weaknesses lie and then play him in that position. Not too difficult is it

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
Honestly, my suspicion is Paqueta lacks the engine to compete properly in the Premier league, the French league in comparison is walking football, Joe Cole went over there on loan with a hobbled knee and still tore it up, while in the Premier league it was clear he wasn't the same player.

In the Brazil team I doubt he has to do much running or chasing about, though he does get stuck in a bit to be fair.

I could be wrong, I hope I am, but Moyes still has to be held accountable, after all he himself claimed he's in charge of all recruitment decisions, if he's spunked our record transfer fee on an unsuitable player and can't tweek the system to get something out of him he should rightfully take the flack. That's without even mentioning Scamacca.

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
As I said on the previous thread about him, the manager and him are a match made in hell.

He without doubt needs to do better for us, his passing hasn't been anywhere near good enough. However, it's clear now from watching him for Brasil what sort of player he is, and I am absolutely at a loss as to why this manager and the recruitment team have signed him.

Moyes is a defensive, mainly long ball manager. Regardless of how bad Paqueta has been individually, he is never, ever going to fit in a Moyes team. It's a fucking ludicrous signing, a player that is at his best playing deep in a fluid team with plenty of movement and players that want the ball and can play quick passes, bought in for a team that is all about sitting back, holding position and keeping shape. I hold the manager and the recruitment team at much more fault than the player.

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
Players like Jay Jay Okocha, whose best attribute was dribbling, are going to look good in any team. If your best attribute is making forward passes then you need other players to be making runs.

For us, the only player usually in advance of Paqueta is Scamacca, who plays with his back to goal, so the setup doesn't play to his strengths at all. The problem is not Paqueta being played out of position, but the position and (lack of) movement of our attacking players.

If we played more like a 4321, with Paqueta deeper and the two wide midfielders more advanced and narrower rather than hugging the touchline and tracking back all the time then Paqueta and Scamacca could interact better with them.

Tony Cottee stood out and still scored goals in struggling West Ham teams.

Scott Parker stood out under Avram Grant in a relegation team.

I'm with you on this.

Some of his performances for West Ham this year have been dogshit. End of. OK, he needs time to settle but he played eleven games for us and had one assist. After this WC he needs to step up.

I've been watching him very, very closely this WC and, being honest, I've not been hugely impressed. I am not an advocate of Moyes and so it would've been easy for me to just say he's had a good game for Brazil and use it as a stick to hit Moyes with. But he hasn't impressed me.

I noticed after his last game for Brazil where he was a ghost and was hooked at half time nobody said a word. He scores against SK last night and then this post pops up. It's just too easy for people with an agenda against Moyes.

Last night his performance was 7 / 10. Holds ball well and plays nice passes but he didn't influence as much as he should.

Say what you like about Moyes. There's plenty to pull him on. But using Paqueta as a stick to beat Moyes is mis-guided.

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
Nobody has really stood out in our team this season though, does that make them all bad players or is it down to the manager?

In fact the only attacking player that has looked good keeps getting subbed and dropped which is inexplicable

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
There’s no doubt that Moyes tactically could be getting more out of him and the team but too many on here are using their hatred of the manager as an excuse for Paqueta’s subdued form.

I keep hearing he’s being played out of position but yet he’s played in that same position many times for club and country.

Even during the Brazil game yesterday he was at times during the game playing as a number 8, then a number 10 and then went out wide.

He scored a decent goal yesterday but in the context of that game it was men vs boys. That Korean defence was awful.

Really good players stand out in any team not just when they are surrounded/playing alongside world class players against inferior opposition.

Going on some people’s argument It’s a wonder how Jay Jay Okocha managed to perform so well under BFS and his “negative hoof ball” at Bolton alongside the likes of Kevin Davies.

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
Must be lovely to play shit, misplace a load of simple passes and for none if it all to be your fault, talk about my shit doesn't stink. Teammates not on the same frequency as this genius? So now the likes of Rice, Scamacca, Bowen, Antonio are shit as well?

some players are instant hits and some need a season to adapt to PL and some just never do. Helps to be played in a system that suits them. To soon to be writing off, I'd like to see him under another manager.

Couldn’t be with him struggling to adapt to English football like many many foreign players before him then?

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
Would love to see a 442 make a comeback. As you say Paqueta and Rice in the middle, Cornet left mid, Antonio right mid and Scammaca and Bowen up front. Can't do any worse!

Steady 3:09 Tue Dec 6
Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
Which is why we should play 4-4-2. 2 centre mid of rice and Paqueta, and we can play 2 up top which would get more out of Scamacca

Re: Paqueta - makes you laugh if it wasn't so sad
your only as good as your teammates, everyone has been shit so would be silly to pick a new signing out, its the tactics simple as that
