Publishing a novel
|
Yeah, I know, totally not West Ham related, but I've just completed my first (and last novel) and had it published on Amazon books in paperback.
Any authors had any experience of this and promoting their book?

OK - this is weird.
If i am logged into my account, i cannot pull the book up either via the normal amazon search bar or in the detailed search.
When i am logged out of my account it comes up.
Whomail me if you want some screen shots to get onto Amazon with.

If you type in Amazon, then select books, then select CLARKE: CHOICES, it should come up.
No wonder my sales are zero :-(

First up, congratulations on doing it and good luck with it.
Couple of things I'd advise.
1) Get some friends to write good reviews for it. Feed them what to say if they can't be arsed to read it and make up their own.
2) Do something about that blurb. I assume that you're allowed to do more than one line? You really need to sell people on the book here, not only teasing more what its about but using positive adjectives to describe it and maybe saying which novels or writers are similar, or the type of reader it would appeal to. I just picked out a Kindle Unlimited book at random, and this blurb covers most of what you should be doing:
"The most chilling read of the Christmas season. As the snow begins to fall, the body count begins to climb…
DI James Walker is ready for a quiet family Christmas in the sleepy village of Kirkby Abbey. But when he opens an early Christmas present left on his doorstep, he soon realises it is no gift. Inside is a gruesome surprise, and a promise – twelve days, twelve murders. Not long after, the first body is found, half frozen in the snow. As the blizzards descend, panic spreads through the remote Cumbrian village – there’s a killer amongst them, and with eleven more victims to go, anyone could be next…. Can James stop the killer before they strike again?
The first in a new series, Alex Pine has written a dark, atmospheric crime novel, set in a snowed-in Cumbrian village, for fans of Val McDermid, Ross Greenwood and LJ Ross."

Out of curiosity, what approximate percentage are you getting from Amazon?

I've just seen what happened when you tried searching for my book and you are right, Amazon takes you another completely different book by an author with the same name!
Absolutely shocking
And I haven't requested sales for the KIndle Tablet either

Cheers SO. There’s something wrong with the Amazon link though. It takes me to the right book but when you try and click on the kindle link it takes you to a completely different book.
I tried finding it on my kindle itself but the store there isn’t that good and I couldn’t find it.
Worth flagging up to them I think.
This is the book it takes you to when you click on the princely sum of 2.24 to buy it.
