I'd eat most stuff. I smashed 4 balut (a boiled fertilised developed duck egg embryo) in a row.
They struggle to eat one before throwing their guts up on Fear Factor and I'm a Celeb.
I draw the line at putting any live animal in my mouth though. Fuck that.

Don’t bother with it any more. That and Cuban stuff are bottom of my list.
Had a yellow ‘custard’ type thing served up to us in China, which the waiters didn’t try all that hard to tell us what animal it was, and it certainly wasn’t custard
Then we had ‘live’ shrimp in alcohol which I summoned up enough gumption and gave a try, not sure if they were moving or the syrupy stuff dripping off them made it look like they were moving.

Beef chow mein, deep-fried chilli beef, spring rolls, some of whatever Mrs OTB is having, and, much to my shame, chips. For some reason I love them.
Only meal I've had in China that I could even slightly relate to what we get served is hoisin duck (which we'd planned beforehand and was probably touristy), but I can't think of anything else that was a version of food I've had here.
Had MSG in North Korea. We had a meal in a restaurant where it was served, in powder form, to add to our meal as we liked. From memory it was cook-it-yourself pork dish.

Our local Chinese doesn’t use MSG or food colouring, it’s the best I have tasted.

Don't think curries are just specific to just Indian cuisine....due to the spice factor.....

Deep fried chilli beef, sweet and sour prawn balls and Singapore vermicelli.
Can never understand why people want a Chinese and then order a curry, makes no sense. I wouldn't go to an Indian for a crispy duck..

Just a little correction to my Hong Kong story below, they weren't junks it was one massive boat made to look like one of their pagoda things.
By the way we flew into Kai Tak by night, I found out later it was one of the scariest airports for landing in, good job I didn't know that beforehand

On the 'grass roots' trip round China I took in 2007, the best foods had were sweet and sour pork, which was very similar to the sweet and sour pork in the UK, and in Szechuan Province, a Szechuan Hot Pot (which was fiery as fuck, but delicious).
What was funny....all the way round our local guide was taking us to out of the way local restaurants service up local cuisine...nothing outlandish, but just decent local food...mostly vegetables and tofu based. We had 4 Australians in the group who were pushing 25 stone and were very critical of all the food.
When we got to Leshan, they found a 'western' restaurant selling 'burgers' and made a swift beeline for it, filling their faces on familiar food.
They then spent the next 36 hours being violently ill with food poisoning. They also spent most of the trip being gawked at like circus exhibits by Chinese who in 2007 were not all that familiar with Western tourists, and in particular super-sized human beings.
Enjoyed the trip...but as said, the hocking-a-loogie/spitting in the street was revolting and highly prevalent.
