Who else is on a diet/get fit and struggling thread 2012 (Inc link for 2011 thread)

After the previous 8500+ thread has gone since it was a year old, let's start another for 2012.
Good luck all and make sure to post all your advice and progress, we need a lot of healthy hammers out there!
This is the old thread if any WHO'ers still want to read it?

First training session since second ablation. Not done a thing for six weeks. Depressing the shape I am in. Onwards and upwards on the slow road to recovery.

I always find I lose muscle fullness with really low carbs, hence the rice!
But yeah I might lose a portion.
BF I do with calipers, but there is still a margin of error.

But yea Ricky I suspect if you cut out some of those portions of rice and replaced them with more greens/fish you would see some reduction in BF over time. Might not make gains but I don't think you'd lose strength/mass. That was basically what I did.

I replaced toast as my pre workout snack with wholegrain muesli.
And yes I know you're supposed to eat carbs post workout but I figure by the time you've finished training is when it actually gets digested so better that way. I dont see why you need to change that diet Ricky and I suspect that unless you go hardcore on cardio/IF/keto etc you won't get much under 15%, and if you do it will make so little noticable difference that it wouldn't be worth it.
I was doing loads of cardio and eating very low carb for a year, got down to 12% BF... now packed the cardio in am eating more carbs and am at 15%, really cannot notice the difference.
Worth doing as an experiment though.
How accurate are those BF machines in Boots' anyway?

Anyone still training?
I'm still at it, eating what I perceive to be clean but interested in other opinions..
My daily intake
Ommlette - 2 whole eggs, mushrooms, cheese
1 Slice Wholemeal toast - 30g natural peanut butter
Tuna or Chicken, Mixed Salad, 30g Brown Rice
60g Salmon, 30g Brown rice
Steak/Mince/Chicken/Turkey/Salmon + Green Veg, 30g Brown rice.
Lots of blueberries and strawberries. Couple of bananas.
Casein protein before bed. Unflavoured. Whey protein (concentrate/isolate blend) immediate post workout
Calories around 2500 Protein 165g
Any thoughts, I think I could replace my Wholemeal bread/peanut butter but not sure with what.
Weigh 15st7 6ft4 15%BF Goal is more lean muscle, less BF. .

I'm definitely starting training soon Just come back from a week snowboarding and I was fucked after three and a half days and had a day and a half off (although some of that may have been down to excessive drinking) add to that I'm definitely getting a Darby.... There's no way I'm getting fat my missus has signed up for the great north run thinking of doing it to as that would really push me to train Hopefully got a new job in two weeks so that is when I'll start as ill be able to find a gym as I'm moving across london

Training resumed in Cyprus. Proper Olympic-quality athletic centre, Eleiko equipment abound, plus a working fridge which'll be very necessary come the summer...

Nice on MH.. I can't think of anything worse. I loathe running with a passion you must be mad!
I've decided I need to hit my rear delts hard so I'm going to ease up on my chest training and hit biceps and rear delts.

yeah similar for me. was my first one so finishing in one piece was my main priority. could have pushed a little bit more over the first half or so. felt fine over the last few miles, could still hold a conversation and wasn't knackered at the end.
with a bit of proper training reckon i could go under 1hr50 next time

Well done mate. I done the Henley half back in September. Managed to sneak under at 1.54. As it was my first I wasn't sure about what pace to go at etc but I reckon I can do it faster so will aim for 1.45 this year I reckon.

I quite like stronglifts theories, but I don't like their advice on bent over rows and squatting.
I prefer Yates rows - back at 45 degree rather than 90.
I also don't think high bar squatting should be ignored - strong lifts has low-bar squats only.

Stronglifts 5x5 is going well for me so far. Week 8 (with one week lost to gastroenteritis). Have been hitting it fairly hard, five times per week instead of the suggested three, as otherwise it doesn't feel like I'm working hard enough.
Still can't run due to shinsplints, MCL, but am enjoying the weights more. Squats beginning to hurt now. Excellent.

My 10 miler at Aldereshot with 35lb bergen, army boots an fatigues was completed in 1hr 58 mins.
Whilst in training we quickly realised that running anything other than a slight gradient gives a diminished return as you get a massive lactic acid build up and blow yer lungs so a fast march is better so you can run the flat/downhill.
The first 3.5 miles were virtually all up hill and it was really hard to be patient but we noticed that we quickly caught the fulltime runners on the flat and were in better shape so we took heart from that.
My mate had a stinking cold and Top Gun taught me you never leave your wingman so when he did conk out at 8.5 cajoling, threats, pushing and the odd boot were deployed.
Will definitely do one again. Great test.
