Paul Hilton - An Apology
We all know that there are certain perennial threads on here. Amoungst them is the oft posed question of who was West Ham's worst ever signing. I always reply, Paul Hilton , only West Ham could beat a team 10-0 then buy their centre half, etc etc

However reading my Christmas Gift or bring me the head of Trevor Brooking book I discovered that actually P Hilton returned 7 goals in 65 games for us. Fuck me we have had strikers who would have loved a return as good as that.

For that reason, despite the fact that I remember you as a gangly, not very good footballer with a badly curly haircut, Mr Hilton I apologise

Re: Christian DAILLY - A HAMMER
A good decent and loyal high quality footballer and coach.

The only other accurate comparison between HILTS and Chris,is that they both started as strikers and young men with intelligence, ambition and a lot of expectations from their mentors

Re: Paul HILTON - A HAMMER
I have to admit I know Hilts got a few goals (and I think I saw everyone of them) but he was a shocker.... Dailly was a lot better player than him....

Re: Paul Hilton - An Apology
hacko - that was John Radford - definitely one of our worst signings ever. Decent for the Arse but was well past his sell-by date when we got him.

Re: Paul Hilton - An Apology
I remember when he first signed there was a picture of him in the programme cleaning a shitty old Ford Capri.
Even in those pre Baby Bentley generation days it was pretty laughable

Hilton was rubbish, right up there with Paul "Basil" Brush.

Useless cunts, i used to dry-wretch when I saw/heard their names on the team sheet.

Gangly, useless twat of a player. Our worst ever signing? Not by a country mile. Worth an appology? No way, he was genuine shite.

I thought that was his fellow Australian, Michael Ferrante.

Could be wrong though.

Once upon a time I actually saw Hilts with his family in one of the aisles at Sainsburys, Newbury Park, when he was with us.

Joey Beauchamp has got to be up there. Signed and then decided he didn't want to move house and went off to Swindon.

Re: Paul Hilton - An Apology
Then there was that Arsenal centre forward who actually was a part of their double-winning team in 71 but cost us 80 thousand but didn't even score once.
Eighty thousand wasn't chicken feed then....

The name Neil Orr always filled me with dread.

And, upthread, yes to Alex Bunberry.

ANYONE who does have Marco Boogers as our worst signing knows fuck all about football, and West ham in particular

Re: Paul Hilton - An Apology
Paul Hilton was a decent player - to say he was our worst ever signing must mean that you never saw him play , or missed the numerous donkeys we have had over the years

Gary Strodder looked like Max Headroom.

I preferred Gazza Strodder... looked like the missing link in Bros... at least I can remember one decent game from him.........

Just good enough to be visibly bad. Once made Paul Ince cry by trying to give him footballing advice. "I wouldnt mind if it was from someone who could play." complained a tearful Ince

There is a bit of footage of me on TV climbing up the cages at WHL after Hilts scores with a header... Boxing day 1987 rings a bell??

Oh... we lost... again

Re: Paul Hilton - An Apology
Hilton was OK. A decent pro and backup defender.

McKnight and Kelly were much worse signings, though coming in to replace Cottee and Parkes would always have been tough.
