Proudest west ham moment
|
|
As a kid, I went to St, Edwards and I've a book with a picture of Bobby Moore and 100 boys (including me) from the school, all wearing one of his England Caps. The picture was to celebrate the 100th Cap at the time. Strange thing is, I remember him being there, but not really posing with the cap.
Tatty old book now (a football annual) but hard to beat a momento like that.

watching us beat Arsenal in 1980 to lift the FA cup, no one gave us a hope yet we played them off the park in some stages.

From a personal perspective it has to be the semi final play off at home vs Ipswich. I was in the corner near the TB stand and told MC that "Matty was on". He actually looked directly at me and then passed to Matty who fired in a winner. I was mobbed a really fantastic moment. Other than that has to be 80 final for me a great day and great memory.

1965 European Cup Winners Cup Final v TSV Munich at Wembley. An utterly brilliant performance in a great game. 2-0.

When we beat Cambridge to get promoted in the early 90s. Think it was only my second match.
Sitting on my dads shoulders with my hands in the air and singing Bubbles, in the middle of the centre circle with the team up on the West Stand Upper... that was enough to convince me it was West Ham for life.

Aside from all the fooball-i have to say in recent memory yesterday in Coventry Magistates Court at approx 3.15 after giving evidence for Pringle ( me wearing a claret and blue tie )
Magistrate " I dimiss this case , i prefer the evidence of both Mr Pringle* who came across as a relaible and honest witness , and even more so that of Mr jack1's evidence*
* real names not stated to protect the innocent ."

i've had a couple. cup final and play off finals etc.
my fave though.
we were 1 down against man u at upton park and ronaldo walked up to take the penalty.
he missed and i dont think my son, 6 at the time, had ever heard the place be so noisy when he missed.
anyway he looked at the score baord and said to me "dad wouldnt it be great if we could score against them as they are the best team arent they"
i replied "no son it owuld be good if we scored one, it would be great if we scored 2"
anyway 5 mins later we get a goal and the bml is oging nuts and jumping everywhere and i had him inmy arms and he said "dad we did it, we did it we scored aginst them"
all the outlaws are from about 150 miles outside manchester, so are ovbiously reds.
anyhow we get a corner and we watch as upson out jumps everyone and his headed ball comes in a beautiful arc and we see it lob over van der sarrs fingers and nestle in the bottom conrer near us.
cue place going pandemonium.
i lift him up as we celbrate and as i lift him down he has tears i his eyes.
i ask him if hes ok and he tries to man up and says "yes something went in my eye"
he then looke dat the score baord and said dad were beating the top team.
that was the day that we both knew that i had scared the poor kid for life and he was always going to be claret and blue.
