The power of Foxtel?
Foxtel (in Oz) listings showed their coverage of the Barnsley game as starting at 2:21 local time.
I couldn't understand why it wasn't 2:15, which was the official kick-off time.
When I switched on at 2:15 they were showing ice hockey (NHL) and I was swearing loudly.
When the ice hockey finished they showed some ads and I was swearing even more loudly at missing the first 5 or 6 minutes.
Then they went to Barnsley and the Barnsley team were in a huddle.
The commentator said "well, 5 minutes after schedule, now we're going to start..."
Does this really mean that, because Foxtel want to show the end of an ice hockey game in Oz, a Championship game starts when they say so???

Haha can you imagine

Mark Bright : And we are just about to get under way here at Oakwell....Oh hold on just a moment there, the BBC would like to apologise but we are going to have to delay kick off for 10 minutes whilst the Russian Under 15 Girls indoor table tennis tournament reaches its conclusion.

Back to you in the studio Jake.

Re: The power of Foxtel?
ok, so the commentator was just trying to make me feel better

that's ok then

presumably the bookies are in real time so no benefit there...

Re: The power of Foxtel?
Timeshift means the game will have been streamed on 'foxtel' 5 or 6 minutes after the game being shown live in the UK to give the Ice Hockey a chance to finish. The commentators were probably just covering the chanels ass for being late.

The game kicked off bang on time at 5.15 here (I think).

Not really sure what this does for gambling etc...?

Re: The power of Foxtel?
A championship match in England is not going to start late because a USA hockey match has run over all for the broadcasters benefit in Australia!

Re: The power of Foxtel?
did the game actually start at 5:15 as scheduled?

Re: The power of Foxtel?
no idea who the commentators were

are you saying they had some other commentators who were primed to say the match was starting 5 minutes late?

or is this a conspiracy theory?
