Indian Premier League/County Cricket
Has anyone been watching this? Picked a 'team' to support?

I was watching it last night, and noticed that Ryan TEN DOESCHATE has been snapped up by one franchise, and Owais SHAH has been the star of the show for another (60 off 26 balls yesterday).

Then I got to thinking about Alastair COOK and Ravinder BOPARA being unavailable for Essex due to England duty, and realised that Essex are now without their 4 best frontline batsmen.

Then it dawned on me how excellent it is that Essex have still managed to WIN the only Championship fixture they've played this season.

Then I began to wonder if any other county contributes as much to England and World Cricket as Essex. I concluded that they do not.

That is all.

By the way i think ANY win by SA in the series would take them above England to number 1.

Davenport, guide to ICC rankings caluclations here:-

http://www.ehow.com/how_6916968_calculate-icc-rankings.html

They are designed to give you more points, for beating stonger opponents. So say beating the current England team , will get you more ranking points than beating Bangladesh. You get points for each test match win and each series win. England had to beat India 4 - 0 last year, to get to no 1 in the world, in tests.

I haven't checked the latest tables, but I believe SA will be no 1 in tests, if they beat England. Happy to defer to anybody who actually knows.

You can say that again!

I've been in Bengal (West and East) for about 20 years. Sometimes I love it, other times it drives you to a place way beyond distraction.

It is cleaner these days (wasn't always!).

I was also at that T20 England vs India game. A good evening.

Just went to watch the KKR victory parade. Thousands and thousands of people lining the road, shouting and pushing and jostling as if their lives depended on a glimpse of the victors - and that in 40 degrees heat and heavy humidity. (Wouldn't be surprised to see and injury or two before the team reaches Eden Gardens...)

Awesome win by the Knight Riders last night, and a series of really superb displays throughout the tournament.

KKR captain, Gautam Gambhir, said that there's only one word to describe the victory: mission accomplished.

Anyone watching the second qualifier? This is brutal stuff from Chennai.

Having dominated the group stages, Delhi appear to have choked when it really matters. Leaving Morne Morkel out of the starting line-up has to be one of the bizarrest decisions I've ever witnessed!

Still, with Sehwag, Warner, Jayawardene and Taylor in the DD batting line-up, I'm not counting my chickens just yet!

Rather impressive from David Warner. Pity as I was patting myself on the back after backing Deccan pre match.
