Children of the Ghetto. The story of East End Jewry?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UZeyhRRTUA
I always thought the Jews were from Tottenham areas, Golders Green, Stamford Hill and Edmonton, hence we call them yiddo's. When did they move then or are they still there?

I don't know much about Judaism I'll admit, but recently I've heard they don't believe in afterlife, is that right? If so what's the fucking point in the religion?
At least us caffolicks, have got an eternity in the cloudy gold stuff!!

I don't think the Romans hated the Jews.
They hated stroppy Jews, just like they hated stroppy non-Romans in general. (Actually, they weren't very keen on stroppy and poor Romans, either.)
Accept the Romans' right to tax you, chuck in a bit for the actual individuals doing the taxing, and then they liked you.

Claret, you could read flavius' account?
In short, the Jews refused to lay down and take it. In fact the Romans had problems with many of the tribes from that area and tried every tactic to subdue them as cheaply as possible.
You will notice that around this times the Jews split up into Sadducee, Essene and Pharisee - this was largely a Roman plitical construct and based on divide and rule.
Jesus was an Essene, they were the reformists of their day. Bit of a new fad, but very strict and very serious.

I swear I read somewhere that the Church also took in Jewish kids and gave them to christian families. But after the war they would not give the surviving families the details to where their kids are?

Blimey 100 from Nose City swtoc.
I remember watching an old documentary (may have been the world at war) on world war II that showed old film and accounts of Jews fleeing the Nazis across Europe. They showed Jews queuing up at Catholic Church's to convert religion. The Catholic Church's allowed this apparently. They also changed their names from Goldbergs and Silversteins ect and their ID to match their new name John Smith/ Sue Jones or whatever, before scattering all around the world. Can't say I blame them.
So there must be many a gentile with Jewish blood running through their veins.

Judaism is one of the very few religions that does not condone evangelism, there were no jewish misisons in africa or anywhere else for that matter. There was no "conversion at the point of a sword" unlike christianity or islam.
Judaism was and is pretty much a closed shop. Like most closed shops, when they appear successful they can be the cause of jealousy in others. When other, non-jewish sections of the same society are languishing, the jealousy can breed contempt and violence.
Christianity and Islam were really forms of religious competition for the big prize - control of the population.

Read Josephus Flavius' Jewish Chronicles.
Its a long read, but very interesting and you will see where most of this stems from.

Duke, the real question to ask is why the established rulers of countries stirred up hatred of minorities.

I don't advocate racism or prejudice in any way, but have Jews ever wondered why so many other groups hate them over the centuries?
Just putting it out there.

A Jewish bloke i know said once "if you have Jewish blood, youre a Jew, whether you like it or not".
A religion based on ethnicity and which is by definition exclusive will always get you into trouble.

Technically I'm a Yid because apparently the Jewish bloodline is passed down from the female gene.
My Nan was/is a Jew. Not a very good one as she likes pork. Mum much the same. I myself do not consider myself in anyway a Jew. It's a religion not an ethnicity.
My bloodline apparently from my Nan's side is Polish, Hungarian and German. I though was born blonde haired and ble eyed (arian outcast me!) to and English mother and Scottish father so I don't identify with any other ethnicity other than British.

A few months ago I met a UK based jewish woman in Hong Kong who told me that anti-semitism was rife in the part of London where she lived (and which I can't recall). This surprised me and I put it down as a bit of rant because I have always felt that the UK was very tolerant as far as the jewish community was concerned and reasonably tolerantt as far as other immgrant groups are concerned .
I have no idea why any of this would annoy Darcus Howe and Diane Abbott though. Seems a strange statement to make.
