I don't know if this has been mentioned, but John Lyall's parents, both Scottish, met in London got married and made their first home together in Ilford, where the great man was born. John met his wife Yvonne,an Ilford girl, at the local bus stop. Just think,if John's parents had not met in London, the history of West Ham United would be totally different.

OHL I cannot remember my teachers when I was a South Park though have been frantically trying to find my class photo I had from my time at South Park. Sadly, Ilford has changed a lot since the time I lived there. I think I would feel slightly alienated now if I still resided there.

I cant believe the Prince of Wales is still running. When I used to go there it was run by Mary who was definitely of the "OK. I've had your money now fuck off home!" variety of landlady. Used to love the place. Drank there at lunch as well when I was sweeping around Ilford Lane and South Park.

I remember Holicks. Back in the day they used to have a cigarette machine outside that often used to get stuck and give you unlimited packets. My mum used to send me up there most days!
Is the Prince of Wales still 3 bars? Snug in the middle? Used to play darts in there with the Barnards, Mick, Brian and John.

There was a really good chippy just along from the Red Cow on the other side of the road. Run by Greek Cypriots - but then weren't they all!

My Dad bought all my West Ham kit from Bootings. Also my first football boots "Stanley Mathews" wish I had kept all the kits !

I remember Bootings, got my "George Best" moulded football boots from there. They were all plastic and really crap. Also they had a good range of Subbuteo teams, got WH, Leeds, Celtic, Bradford (liked the colours) and Newcastle. Mind you, after a couple of afternoons playing most of the men had snapped off at the ankles. Just a couple of doors along from Bootings was one of the first Chinky takeaways in the area. Spent may a night in the Lord Nap, Chinky takeaway eaten with fingers walking home and then throwing the lot up.
