Some great photos but the most poignant I have ever seen is missing. The little Vietnamese girl fleeing the American nepalm bombs is the one I'll never forget.

I .have to disagree, the Bobby/pele photograph absolutely belongs there. No colour barrier, no language barrier, just the two best footballers in the world showing mutual admiration post battle. I love that photo,

Great stuff! 2 photos need to be at least added to that though -

Iconic photo, the executioner was actually a great bloke but people dont know the surrounding story about what a cunt the guy he shot was...

What is interesting about photographs is that they are a moment frozen in time and sometimes the stories surrounding them can be either lost or change the context.

The Kevin Carter young/ girl vulture is a great picture but there are some accounts which claim that it was taken by a UN food delivery plane. The girl's parents were nearby collecting food and the vulture was attracted by the delivery not by the dying. Who knows? We only see the photograph.

The Saigon street execution is prefect timing as you can see the bullet exiting the skull. Ironically, the photographer was quite friendly with the executioner and the photograph effectively finished his career.

How that monk appears so calm in the midst of his self immolation is beyond me. It was not strictly war related but a protest about religious freedom against the South Vietnamese government of the time.

There is a tremendous exhibition of Vietnam war photographs at the museum in Saigon. A good number of photojournalists were killed following the action and there are several exhibits from their last reels. The exhibition as a whole is very poignant.

One of the best known photographers from the war Horst Fass died in the last few weeks and a lot of his work has been shown on the internet.

Photo 21, Horace Greasly.

What a brilliant story. He escaped from his prison camp over 200 times to shag a 17 year old local girl - then sneaked back in.

Sold- Strangely I was looking at that photo tonight thinking about THE images I think of when people talk about the Vietnam war. That, the poor sod getting the bullet in the temple, the people hanging off the helicopter out of the US embassy in Saigon (I know someone who was on that helicopter), the colour photo of the Phantoms dropping napalm and of course the naked little girl running from the napalmed village.

I can see that whoever put the original photos up wanted 'smaller', more intimate photos of normal people, was young (a lot were taken in the last couple of years) and very obviously American.

For me, by far the best photo he put up was the kid hearing for the first time. His face told a story about how amazing human senses are and how much we just take for granted.

A great, great photo.

That photo of the poor bastard kid and the vulture shows exactly what 'poignant' is all about and wipes the floor with most of those heavily American accented photos.

Good photos, most of them, Earthrise is regularly voted the greatest photo of all time and there's not much more poignant than looking back on the little blue, fragile-looking rock in space we all live on, but a little black girl holding an old lady's hand against something like 'falling man?

Now THAT is a poignant photograph.
