Can anyone recommend a decent hotel that doesn't charge the earth in New York?
I'm there for three nights next month on the way back from California with Mrs Scud so the names of any decent bar/restaurants/diners would be appreciated too.

Just come back from there, I shelled out for a hotel on Times Square, fucking expensive but location was excellent in terms of sites etc.
There are a million nice restuarants and is hard to make a choice but if you want a proper burger then you will not beat "Five Napkins", there are a couple in NYC but I went to the one in the Hells Kitchen region on 9th.
The Sutra bar is also good for music etc,

The Diner, 85 B'way Brooklyn does an exquisite steak and chips!!
It's right under the Williamsburg Bridge!

Good to see you though mate!
I live in Hoboken which is 5 mins on train into City. Don't know how much cheaper it is really to stay in hotel there as there are not that many. I'd go with Kaka's recommendation.
