One song that he did that was any decent was (something about a watchtower) is he the most overrated musician or are there any other contenders ?

Hendrix was the first super star guitarist who pioneered extremely loud, distorted solos, along with quite a few other flash on-stage gimmicks.
Purple Haze and All Along The Watchtower and Voodoo Chile were perhaps his most accessible tracks. You had to be there to understand how much he changed music, I suppose.
I'm surprised you felt the need to have a moan about someone who died in 1970 though? It's not like he's starring on some rigged phone in contrived shit for mongs every Saturday night, is it

For the axe-stranglers and afficianados amongst you I can heartily recommend 'The Twang Dynasty' by Deke Leonard.
Amongst potted histories of almost every guitarist worth mentioning, it has a very good Hendrix anecdote in it.

I've never heard it said he played the guitar upside down, only that he strung a right handed guitar to be left handed. Which is obvious to anyone with half a brain thats what he did.

Anyway, he cracked out some cracking tunes. Crosstown Traffic is my favourite.

Incidentally it is a misconception that Hendrix played everything upside down.
He did not. He played a right handed strat, left handed, but he restrung it so that it was still strung as a lefty would play it usually.
Yes the guitar was upside down, but the strings were correct for a lefty.

Even if you are being serious with your statement that jimi is overrated, I would immediately put any further debate to rest by simply saying that Hendrix is probably mentioned more often than not by famous modern guitarists in their lists of most influential players.
That would immediately suggest he cannot be overrated.
Plus Pete Townsend rated him so much that he refused to have the who go on stage straight after jimi at the isle of wight festival as he refused to believe he could follow such an act.
