OHL 12.05 - your point is valid up to a point. The article you link to, ignores the Corporation Tax and Employers' National Insurance, paid by tobacco companies in the UK.

Treating smokers cost just over £5 billion in 2009, so even allowing for infaltion, the government makes a profit on smokers.

Fine Mashed like you say do what you like how you want like all dreams they'll stay that way (mine that is). I'd just like a shunt in the majorities mindset for getting pissed up habitually that's all, not a ban especially to those with little responsibilities like the youth, just mix it up a bit so it's not all work and then smashed with no recall, and back to work again, it's a waste of life in a sense and can easily be better arranged not to be that way.

I recall many years ago when you said we had been victorious in Afghanistan and was peaceful, here's some photos of our success in securing our objectives...

Still no end to the war though.

Almost enough to drive one to take up smoking

Sorry to play a part in the downfall of our once great country but if its saturday and I've got a bit of wedge and had a stressful week and feel like getting pissed over West Ham or in town then I'm gonna bloody well do it.

I'm sure I could spend my time better at an art gallery but its not the the 2 are mutually exclusive.

Mashed a lot of the upper classes can drink their selves to death as not a lot of what is going wrong effects them does it?

I truly believe if the lower/middle working classes (Majority) kept out of the pubs a little longer someone out of us could totally mug off these upper class/upper middle class twats and if they didn't get power crazy could show them cunts how it's done being the nations true leader of the communities.

I'm kind of thinking along the blueprint of Australia with obviously British tweaks, they basically vote in one their own to run it generally how the majority want it, then fuck off and have a BBQ but not until shit is sorted early doors.

But talk like this only gets you seen as being off your nut. :-)

I approve of pubs, clubs parties the lot, it just there's getting pissed and then there is mashed. I see too much of the staggering wrecks and a lot of them are middle aged and are dressed 10 years younger without being on the show and having the procedure's done. We drink like we live in a godforsaken country with nothing better to do, like our footy team there is surely more to us than just spirit/s?????

Side of Ham, you sound like a right bundle of laughs. I reckon you're the life and soul at a party...assuming you approve of parties?

Having a beer does not automatically equal getting bollocksed and shitting your self.

The upper and middle classes, the people who run this country, enjoy a tipple as well.

I'm sure the illuminati do too.

LSD T - Because you're worth it!

Mashed - Obviously some of us don't want the brain ache involved so are welcome to piss it up for ever more, call it the Oliver Reed Party.

Re: five years ago today, we got the smoking ban
I find it's more dangerous to walk past pubs in the City of London since the smoking ban came into force, especially on Thursdays and Fridays.

Pubs are virtually empty with smokers and non-smokers outside now taking up all the pavement and forcing anyone who wants to walk by to walk in the road.

Wankers!!!

Re: five years ago today, we got the smoking ban
I can have a laugh without getting pissed.

I'd just rather have a beer.

Solcing the world's problems is far from my mind when I'm down the pub.

today we have no more cancer, everything is all okay
Everyone is healthy, eating foods that contain more cancer forming agents that a 60 a day smoker would expose himself to.

Pity pubs went shit and closed down...at least my hair smells apple fresh now without all those smoker jokers around...

If you're going to smoke, while not advisable, try and go for an American Spirit brand organically grown and with 'NO' added chemicals.

If smoking is indeed bad for you, then one could assume the governments insistence of purposefully adding after harvest over 300 infinitely more dangerous chemicals, grown with radioactive waste by-products is probably even less safe...

The rise of dogs getting cancer over the past 100 years may help snap you out of this hypnosis, they run all day and generally have less unhealthy habits then us humans, dogs smoke far less these days (1 pack of Rothmans on average, figures from Institute of made up figures) than back in the old days, though their drinking still runs at an all time high...

Re: five years ago today, we got the smoking ban
Whether you agree with smoking or not, one thing it does produce, is a lot of tax revenue. Last year the Tax levied on all tobacco products in this country was £ 1 billion per month.

Me personally am trying to stop, smoked for 20 yrs, and have managed 4 weeks off em. I can't say i won't go back on em but i hope i don't.

The figures above seemed a little crazy when i read them...so here's the link ..

Re: five years ago today, we got the smoking ban
COB you know on here it can be a right hoot and we all take part AND it's done sober, so the characters are here in our society and don't need constant beers to bring it out.

At the moment our culture is drinking masses of alcohol and pride is taken in this and it's termed having a laugh. The truth is you can have laugh and remember about it, and socialise in a proper way where things actually get sorted. We need to focus on what we have become, as we offer a grim future for the next generations to come and I'm sick of these posh wankers trying to get in our mindset to appease us and maintain their own power over us, whilst we are entertaining ourselves down the pub in really........ Frustration of it all and what it's become.

Re: five years ago today, we got the smoking ban
I find odd now , Is the thought of smoking in restaurants , that was outlawed at the same time. Definitely a good reason for the ban , most pubs I go in don't smell of stale booze or puke that is nonsense , although all Wetherspoons smell disgusting anyway and far worse before the ban .
