Westfield Stratford stabbing: Nine charged
Post-mortem tests showed Mr Woodards died from a stab wound
Nine people have been charged with violent disorder following a fatal stabbing at Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, east London.
Liam Woodards, 24, of Stratford, was killed during a fight at the centre on Friday afternoon.
Three men were arrested on Friday and a further six were held over the weekend. They were due to appear before magistrates.
Scotland Yard said two other men suffered minor injuries.
A murder investigation has been launched.
Michael Alvaranga, 23 of Leytonstone; and Javin Righbie, 22, of Stratford; are to appear before Barkingside magistrates later.
Michael Ndefo, 21, Rhys Regisford, 20, and Emmanuel Oloyede, 19, all from Plaistow; Jason Vaughan, 24, Tony Caton, 21, and Danny Caton, 23, all of Stratford; and Jerome McLeish, 20, of Victoria Docks; are due before Thames Magistrates' Court.
A 23-year-old man arrested on Friday was later cautioned for affray and released with no further action while a 20-year-old man, also arrested in connection with the investigation, has been bailed to return to an east London police station on a date in July pending further inquiries.

It's not about respect, it's about pride and ego. It's all an admission of weakness, just as it always has been. It's a declaration that, 'my sense of self is so weak that it is entirely dependant on what I think you, a complete stranger, thinks of me.'
There's nothing new in it, it has always been around. What's worse now is that it is manifested in a culture that glorifies violence, and where the individual, and the individual's rights are paramount. That basically means that the violence is more extreme and the sanctions society applies are too weak. It's a perfect storm the the rampant growth in violent crime that we have seen in our 'society' over the past 10/20/30 years.

It's no different from 'who you looking at', just a handy catch all to justify yourself.
I remember when I was at school someone came in with a black eye, he got asked 'do you fancy my bird'. He reckoned yes and no were both the wrong answer.

fordstar, football related violence is almost always sentenced a lot more harshly. Why, I dunno, I'd assume its cos its more "public". Having said that; someone on facebook earlier said that flowers being left at the scene have been removed by the police, and the feeling is that its in order to not make the area look bad so close to the Olympics. I can see this case causing a lot of fallout.
Anyway none of us know the facts and thankfully this thread hasn't descended into the usual "he must have been a cunt who deserved it" bollocks, and also considering that several more people on here will definitely know some of the people involved its probably best to not discuss the ins and outs of what might have happened at the moment.

35 year old football fan, charged with affray, throws debris and insults, pleads guilty, is a family man of good character and participated to a lesser extent.....................8 months............take him down.
23 year old, charged with affray, involved in mass brawl in shopping centre in front of families, which results in a murder from a stabbing.................caution.............let him go.
Now tell me how is that right?

Relevant Sentencing Case Law
R v Fox and Hicks [2006] 1 Cr. App. R. (S) 17 CA
Football match. Opposing fans, threats, debris thrown. G pleas, albeit on first day of trial.
H, age 25 had relevant and very recent pre cons and was on bail at the time of the offence. He pleaded provocation.
F, aged 35 and a family man, was of good character and had participated to a lesser extent.
F was sentenced to 8 months and H to 12 months.
And the country wonders why kids are murdering each other.
What a fucking joke.
