Portsmouth
Looks like the end is very close.

Totally get that players want paying and they will sit it out to get it from the employer.

Given there will be no club and therefore then they will not get a penny surely letting it go that way is scandalous of these guys.

You can argue what do they care? But they are f*cked either way and if they keep their demands the city ends up with no club down to their stubbornness.

Some may say they deserve it, horrible little club. But its extremely harsh treatment.

However bad we may think we have it at times...

Re: Portsmouth
I can't see this as anything other than a shame, and a bit of a 'there but for the grace of God' moment. Its a cunt of a place, full of fuckwits but they get behind their team and have passion about it. A decent sheepshagger rivalry with Southampton as well. I would rather them in the Premiership than anodyne shite like Fulham or Reading.

Just announced, remaining senior players have to leave by 10th August or the club closes

I'm sure there are a lot of ex footballers that are now skint despite earning a fortune after getting carried away living to excess.

absolutely 100% agree with that 147
These guys we are talking about TBH, Kitson, Lawrence Nugent etc will have made enought money in their footballing careers to be able to affords to do this. However will they do it, that beggars a totally different question.

I know what you're saying. It's probably becaues in this case the players earn more in a week than most people do in a year, so to the common man, it seems obvious that the footballers should be able to get by on a fraction of their current income.

In theory it's sound to say they ought to help out, but people do live to their means. I am sure their expenditure is exponentially more than most people as well. If their wages suddenly stopped, they'd struggle, and have to make major changes to the way they live.

When you're on 25-50K per week you can make this kind of guesture

When you're on 11K per year you can't

Waste of time comparing the two

..."because it's a football club all common sense goes out the window"...

It's a game to us, it's a job to them.

Most fans understand the first bit but can't get their head around the second.

Not the players' fault or responsibility for what the management did, so they shouldn't be emotionally blackmailed into feeling accountable.

Chances are the real culprits will never be tracked down because their donations to the right political party are just big enough.

I just dont get this dig at the players. If your company looked like folding there is no way you would go, oh well to help them out I wont have my wages that they owe me. Like fuck you would but because it's a football club all common sense goes out the window. Anyway fuck 'em

Re: Portsmouth
What a lovely gesture it would be if a certain Mr H Redknapp were to make a donation to a club he was obviously part of the problem.

It will never ever happen but there will be someone who comes along, similar to the Rangers scenario and the club will survive.

The players who are still on the wage bill, in a way you can't blame them but wouldn't it be a great gesture if they did defer their wages. Not only that but I listened to what Ben Haim had to say and he made a very valid point about Trevor Birch and the administrators how they apparently are the priority to when it comes to being paid and from past stories you here they don't come cheap. I remembere the Palce scebario when they were being charged something like £2 million quid by the administrators.

The Hooded Claw, yeah, I'm sure that Pompey fans would start their own team up like AFC Wimbledon, as you say...

That would be quite exciting for them; starting their own team up from scratch and getting all the fans on-board to discuss ideas etc. to help build the foundations of their new club...

There's always light at the end of the tunnel, as they say...

Hear hear!

Mind you if it were the Spuds I would have to chuckle a bit before I slung my £1.00 in their 'Save our Club' bucket.

It of course would be one of those billion forged coins!

Re: Portsmouth
I have 100% sympathy for the the fans, no football fan deserves this, not even Tottenham.

It's always the fan that suffers, the people that cause it just walk away with the money.

Portsmouth will be liquidated, they can start again as a proper community club. If AFC Wimbledon can do it, so can they.

Good luck to them

Re: Portsmouth
Are there any wealthy Pompey fans that can come-in and save them?...

We're lucky that we had both G&S (with a combined fortune of close to £1bn) and Fernandes, all West Ham United fans, who wanted to save us despite the huge financial trouble we were in due to the Icelandic idiots and the equally incompetent Duxbury's mistakes...

It was also that Arab bloke who bought them with promises of huge riches, but who turned out to not have any money to invest.

Feel for Pompey if I'm honest! Great little club with passionate fans. Hope somebody comes in at the death and saves them!

That's what I was thinking.

I think his name is Mr Portsmouth, that's some coincidence.

Perhaps he and the club will separate like Elliot and E.T.
