Re: IT
Seeing all these movies posted, it would appear I may have to revisit my opinion on the book -> movie translation.

Might download a few and watch this weekend to test them out.

Re: IT
Salem's Lot was very good.

It's the only horror movie/series I can recall in which the hero (David Soul's character) is truly shitting himself when confronting the monster.

Re: IT
Original 'Salem's Lot is still good. The remake is dire as is the godawful sequel.
The bits where Barlowe jumps up in the cell are still a big jump!

Odd that they changed Straker and Barlowe himself in that.

The thing with IT is that there are some dodgy elements in there that would not make it to a film adaptation. Pennywise is still the thing that gets me every time yet he is in the TV miniseries less than I remembered. Very vivid image though.

I watched Pet Sematary the other night on Sky. That's a good un. As is Salems Lot, which was good for a TV movie. Starred David Soul.

Re: IT
Awful as the rest of it is, surely you have to give credit to Tim Curry's Pennywise?

Re: IT
Ya I read about it last year,
one of my favourite horror films even if the ending is a joke

Re: IT

Re: IT
The Dead Zone was a decent film as well

I'm rereading IT by the pool at the moment. Loved it as a kid and finding new stuff in it now as an adult.

I've also got the mini-series on the iPad. The acting truly is awful, but it's nice to flick between the two every now and then.

Re: IT
The Mist?

Is that a lighter version ofJames Herbert's The Fog

Alex V 7:14 Tue Jul 24
Re: IT
Nobody's mentioned The Mist (I think) which is a bloody good film.

Clearly he writes stories that translate well to movies. And you don't have to be precious with the source material because it's (good) schlock.

Re: IT
The book was great, the film was shite, the new film WILL be shite, as you cannot get the whole story into one film.

I loved 'IT' when I was a kid.

Not so much now.

I used to love the old VHS cover of 'IT' written in blood on the bath tiles.

That and a film called 'Critters'.

Coulrophobia

It - like a lot of his books, e.g. The Stand etc. - very good but lousy ending.

Re: IT
My mate has a phobia of clowns because I got my old lady to hire out IT for my 12th birthday and he was there watching. Apparently, according to his mother, he didn't sleep without the lights being on for nearly a fortnight.

Even at 12 I was a massive film snob and thought it was a fucking shambles towards the end and just a long drawn out affair.

Re: IT
i never watched the film as even the adverts freaked me out.

Re: IT
Most of his books/stories have translated fairly well surely? It's only Cujo & Christine that were proper duds, and they were pretty shit plot lines to begin with.

A haunted car for fucks sake, how daft.

Re: IT

Indeed. It was a short story in The Bachman Books with The Langoliers, but not Stand By Me as was suggested earlier.

Stand By Me was a short story but in Different Seasons, and not written under the Bachman name.

Re: IT
E15. He did indeed write The Running Man under the guise of Richard Bachman. He wrote a few books as Bachman.
