Take Stuff From Work

Take stuff from work.
It's the best way to feel better about your job.
Never buy pens or pencils or paper.
Take 'em from work.
Rubber bands, paper clips, memo pads, folders-take 'em from work.
It's the best way to feel better about your low pay and appalling working conditions.
Take an ashtray-they got plenty.
Take coat hangers.
Take a, take a trash can.
Why buy a file cabinet?
Why buy a phone?
Why buy a personal computer or word processor?
Take 'em from work.
I took a whole desk from the last place I worked.
They never noticed and it looks great in my apartment.
Take an electric pencil sharpener.
Take a case of white-out; you might need it one day.
It's your duty as an oppressed worker to steal from your exploiters.
It's gonna be an outstanding day.
Take stuff from work.
And goof off on the company time.
I wrote this at work.
They're paying me to write about stuff I steal from them.
Life is good.

Re: People in offices writing their name on stationary!
At my job someone on the floor below actually massively kicked off cos people used the bogs on their floor when ours were being cleaned. As in, the whole office being called into a meeting, "guys, we've had some complaints from the floor below..." style.

Another woman got the absolute steaming petrol with me cos I sat in her seat once when she was late coming in on a late shift, and there was nowhere else for me to sit at that time cos I came in early and the staff on earlies hadn't finished yet. Apparently she HAD to sit in this particular seat cos of her epilepsy. Details of this reasoning have never become apparent to me.

Also I'm convinced every office in the world has this; a fat chatty bird who insists - always no matter what weather or time of day - on having a fan running full-pelt facing her. Any slight movement of this fan will unleash world war three.

I once worked with a Spaniard who was having some trouble with someone nicking his milk out of the fridge. He began writing his name on the milk to ensure that there was no misunderstanding on the part of the suspected milk thief.... The theft continued. He then asked the suspect out straight to stop drinking his milk.... The theft continued. He then added meths to the milk.... The theft stopped. The person who was nicking the milk only had the front to grass him to the management, who attempted to haul the Spaniard over the coles until he pointed out to them that he could do what he liked with his own milk.

Don't work in an office. But we had a few new starters when our company took on a new contract and part of the deal was we had to take on 5 of the staff who had previously worked on the contract.

After the first week someone used one of the new starters coffee cup. With that he got up threw his cup at the wall and was never seen again!

Re: People in offices writing their name on stationary!
Dan I worked in a post room entirely populated by blokes and the tea raffle was upheld as some sort of sacred tradition that must be ahered to and upheld, and a few of them actually seemed to try and ostracise me a bit cos I didn't wanna take part (I don't really drink tea or coffee so there's not really any point).

Was quite bizaar watching all these grown men actually get defensive and huffed up if I returned from the canteen with a hot drink, it was like by not taking part in the holy rite of the tea raffle I was breaking some taboo and causing genuine outrage among my colleagues.

I was once called into a manager's office to be told that my lack of participation in the tea rota was causing unrest amongst the rest of the staff and complaints had been made. I'm sure it was pure coincidence that this arose in an office where I was the only male employee.

Well as that is my name then I claim your stapler. If you don't hand it over I'm sending an email. To someone.

Does your office have tea/coffee raffles/rounds?

Mine at the moment doesn't thankfully but when I've worked in places that do they tend to be the source of the most petty and ridiculous tantrums and office politics.

Re: People in offices writing their name on stationary!
During the great office stationery war of 2003, my neighbour raised the issue of stationery theft in a team meeting. He was officially given permission to paint a 1cm square of tippex onto each of his stationery items, onto which he could then write his initials. For sport, I vigorously opposed this, and was ultimately overruled by my manager, who was completely aware that I was only doing so to get a reaction out of my desk neighbour.

At the team meeting the following week, neighbour's stationery was allocated an agenda point, in order that we could check in with him to ensure his satisfaction.

Neighbour "As you have seen, all of my items are now marked with the agreed tippex square with my initials on. There is now no excuse for anyone to use my stationery."

Hock "Have you marked your tippex?"

Neighbour "Yes."

Hock "Where is the mark?"

Neighbour "On the handle. It has my initials on it."

Hock " How did you paint the handle of your tippex?"

Neighbour "I borrowed Susan's tippex."

Hock "Isnt that a direct breach of your own office stationery rule? I think we need to suspend the office stationery ownership ruling pending a full review."

He had submitted a counter-argument via email to my boss by the end of the day.

Over Tippex.

Re: People in offices writing their name on stationary!

Just noticed that my stapler has a little insert with "name" written on it.

It is not for your name.
I named my stapler 'Danny' after the Danny Glover character Murtaugh who killed a protagonist with a nail gun in one of the Lethal Weapon movies.

The good people at Rexel WANT you to claim it as your own.

It also has a coloured gauge telling me how full of staples it is. My stapler is the fucking nuts.

I currently work in one and love it, I spend m time doing pretty easy tasks and chatting away. I've done loads of manual work in my life as well and come to the conclusion that its largely not what you do its who you work with that makes a job good or bad. One thing I have noticed though paradoxically is that I'm generally speaking a lot more tired after a day in an office than a day on site...

There's a difference between "office work" and "working in an office" as well.
