Black swimmers and or divers?
|
|
Genuine question, googled it and much conflicting reasons given, non appear to make sense. Every four years I can never understood why there is such a shortage as they excel as athletes generally. These sports are not expensive so available to most.
Anyone able to shed some light why, without making any cheap derogatory remarks?

I think they're should be no reason why physically black athletes shouldn't excel at swimming. If you look at a lot of the swimmers doing well currently, a lot of them are absolute units, with physiques that wouldn't look much out of place in the NBA.
I think what a lot of it comes down to is opportunity and infrastructure. Swimming pools are expensive to build and run, how many African nations can afford these?
There are far more of pool and therefore opportunities in the US, but, as there are few black role models in swimming, as a kid what do you aspire to be, a swimmer where there are few role models for you, or a runner/basketball player/footballer etc

I'm not that obsessed with supporting honkeys over black people.
The last few athletes I was a huge fan of before I kinda fell out of obsession with athletics were Seb Coe(he wasn't a politician back then!), Daley Thomson (He's a racist! see OyLympic Irish insult) and Carl Lewis(Used drugs).
You can keep focussed on support based entirely on one's race, even if I wanted to I wouldn't legally be allowed.
I may have mentioned before, if I'm to forced to pick a favourite based on their race alone it would be the Japanese (love their whole thang) Second preference would be the Chinese(Our next overlords, we'll have little choice in the affair).

Conversely I doubt anyone is sportingly giving any moral support with such concern to any plucky honkey that tries to compete against any black runner in the sprinting events.

Looking at the article the BBC made, the one eddieb put a link to, it seems everyone is now saying black people dont swim as much as whites due to racism. What an absolute load of bollocks, I have been swimming for years and have seen many black people swimming someof them swimming very well. Obviously they are not as fast as elite swimmers, nothing to do with racsim. So are white people being kept out of athletics due to black racism? One rule for one, one for another, its also being patronising to black people too IMO.

Wasn't there a swimmer in the Olympics about 30 years ago, I think he was from Malawi, who nearly drowned?

Guiness. That's the point. Look at the US athletics team. Hardly a white bloke there. It's a similar story for the Europeans, where black athletes are very over represented. You found one in how many teams? I think that tends to prove the point that there must be, either a cultural, or genetic reason. Maybe it's a bit of both? I am not involving the African nations, as there is an obvious lack of facilities in some sports. This is not the case in Europe and the USA.

No black swimmers, apart from the one in their successful freestyle relay team you mean?

What you were describing was selective breeding, producing better, faster, stronger fitter and brighter etc That's something entirely different.
Today we have machines and medicines that allow our weakest to survive.
To get better swimmers and runners naturally would require the reproduction between the best specimens of those kind of activities.
Two prime athletes of Mensa qualified intellect reproducing would give a better likelihood of producing a athletic and intelligent child, merging one parent with a mental age of 9 and a clubfoot with another of equal misfortune would be less likely to obtain a chess grandmaster that can perform so well in athletic activities. That's how things work in the animal kingdom.
Just think in 50 years time when all those birds and blokes with plastic surgery to make them look far more attractive and BUPA care fixing their fucked up natural genetics have to explain to their kids why they not only look totally unlike their parents but have such fucked up noses, big fat arses and keep walking around in circles when trying to follow a straight line.

As far as I'm aware the only person to ever swim in an African river was Tarzan. But he always ended up fending off a crazy crocodile.

I don't think it's anything to do wih physiology. I think it's just cultural. They tend not to have the same access to pools when they are younger in countries that have strong development of swimmers as they are generally poorer. And in the US there is a weird tendency for them to avoid learning to swim. And there is a lack of black role models to emulate.

As said its more to do with muscle structure than bone structure. Hence west African and Carribean/African-American women tending to have arses that stick out more than European women.
We are all different, this isn't a bad thing and I dunno why some people find this so hard to accept.
