Joe Cole lasts just 23 minutes for Liverpool

I can't help feeling a little sorry for Joe Cole and still consider him a Hammer despite all. He lasted just 23 minutes of Liverpool's Europa Cup Preliminary match against FC Gomel, the Belarus giants,,, (Oh how the mighty have fallen)

I am also very glad we did not make a bid for his services, in days of yore we would have offered him £30K per week to warm the bench for a season.

A much vaunted career that, in the end, has produced so very little.

I see all those players Carrick, Cole, Defoe play enough even at youth level because it was a decent side, i just didn't see them like the likes of Bonds, Alvin or Brooking plus i'd grown up a bit and found a few better natural buzz's and got a mortgage hence why i didn't go religiously like when i just had my cock to keep and like i say stopped taking it seriously. They was kids when they was here and did their maturing elsewhere, i only give out MY respect to kids who see out their apprenticeship and then do some serious time on the front line at the same job especially when it's shit conditions even if they could do better, but because they got headhunted it means i can't say they gained respect while with us, so what's the issue??? It's just my take on it, and my take is it's muggy to respect them when they went before they'd turned into anything the sky faithful wank over.

the point is you said you didnt respect the players because you didnty see them perform, then you admit that you didnt go much so you had no chance of seeing them perform anyway. seems like moaning for the sake of moaning fella.

bit like me saying that bobby moore was shit because i never saw him perform, and then tell you that i wasnt born when he was playing! ha!

I moaned because i've got to see and 'respect' REAL club players who were here for large chunks if not all their careers and proud to be here too. This of course is not possible now unless they are average and not wanted by the big clubs, hence why there is a lot of straw clutching at players that turned out to be passing ships, but because they did their education here they are seen as 'if only' players, when they was in reality always looking to leave, just needed a great excuse and got one.

It's as plain as day to me as by not going i get to take off my claret & blue specs, if that's odd then so be it.

Not silly really i've had the odd season ticket when my mates fancy a season's jolly, but i didn't take it seriously from post sky and still don't today, it's just an excuse to meet up with my mates if we could all afford to get one, hence respect don't really come into things as they do silly shit to discredit themselves, and the 'modern' fan goes all wanksplat over a player then he leaves, you don't get time to get to like them.

I've done my time Window when football was drawing to the end of what/whom it was invented for, and why turn so bitchy you tart, only those who throw their money and time away get bitter about things, therefore if i don't go or spend time on something i can't be bitter. I also got what i wanted out of it and gave it up when it got all 'yankiefied' and i don't see footballers as people to aspire too be or admire and respect as it's getting like WWF with them seeing themselves as a brand simples.

joe cole played over 125 games for west ham. carrick 130+. defoe nearly 100. etc etc etc.

i think the fact that they went to good clubs, some went to the biggest, meant that they had earned their move. unless the clubs bought them because they were shit?

maybe cole and the others wouldve performed better and perhaps even won something had the club provided a better manager than roeder for his final 2 seasons, eh?

I think any West Ham supporter can see that if you are class you need to leave if you want to get a list of achievements. I don't respect them as 'West Ham' players because i rarely got to see them perform for us as they moved onto bigger and better things sooner than they got the opportunity to earn it. Those that do respect what they've gone onto to do are clutching at the old bollocks of 'yeah but we produced them' no we fucking never we gave them the platform to kick start their careers.

We as a set of fans want our club to be respected as effectively a school (isn't that what an 'academy' is???) when in reality the big clubs laugh their cocks off at us in todays game as we can't possibly keep them for long enough..

Not only would they not have won their gongs but they wouldn't have developed into the players they are today. They've only been able to do that by playing alongside better players and being challanged by better players.

You have to play at a higher standard to improve in any sport.

Window 74, i'm talking about THAT team's youth players at that time Defoe, Carrick, Cole. They seem to get huge respect from us, yet as it turns out were minor participants to the clubs history and on record the bit of history they did make for us at 1st team level was relegation.

I don't care if they had no choice in leaving my point is they were not here long enough to be 'respected' West Ham players and other clubs have gone on to get the best out of them, and therefore warranted their respect.

We are more likely to be seen as a blip in their careers, should we respect them for that?

As if Stanislas is anything compared with Joe Cole. Cole was predicted to be one of the best English flair players of all time - and he started his career with us.

As you can see, there were a lot of replies to the thread, hence a lot of interest and a lot of discussion.

If you're not interested, then don't post. It really is that simple.

I'll prove it to you when you start your thread on Stanislas by not posting on it. As I would have no interest in it.
