UK Athletics' lease of that stadium will be nailed on and they will be seen as more important tenants especially because of the Olympics. To think we'll get away with knocking it down in a few years is wishful thinking I'm afraid.

This. It's completely about getting to the location. it will make us. Change it later when 1) We've got a few bob from new investment (it will come) and 2) The track legacy will be a far less emotive issue.

I reckon we will stay in the OS for a few years then demolish it, build a proper football stadium and a new athletics stadium next door. Everyone's happy

So let's face it, Levy was right all along wasn't he? To be a decent football stadium it just needs knocking down and starting again. Our lot are just so desperate to raise our profile and sell that they are totally blind to how shit this will be as a football watching experience.

Would love to see Boris taking coe & livingstone to task by issuing them mandatory donkey jacket, air compressor, transit van & jack hammer.

We will have to make the most of what was a fuck up. It should have been designed for football after the games, but is wasn't, too late now, move on, what next?
As long as them's that made the monumental mistakes of this abomination pay for it to be put in a decent enough shape as has been mentioned for football, then they shall be exonerated from their sins.
We will have to be patient until Sept and G&S have released their plans.

Hermit. I guess It needs to be a tad bigger because of the track but agree with you re bad design and wasted money, even if it does look good.

Seats being further away in bigger stadium shocker.

I knew a bloke who got banned from watching Epsom & Ewell at their old ground in West St. He used to watch the game from a tree in the park next door with binoculars as he still wrote the match reports.

ATbog, in terms of seats, the emirates isn't far short. If it is twice the size then I'd call that a design flaw and further evidence of money being wasted.

I think the length of the grass area is roughly that of a football pitch about 100m ??

The football pitch will have to fit inside the track, as the grassed area does now, because the track can't be moved back without affecting the running distance - 400m per lap.

Hermit. From the top of the gherkin, which is almost equidistant to the emirates and OS, it is double the size. That may have something to do with the cost. Nothing can compare with the waste of money that is Wembley though. £1 billion, and on land already owned?

Re: Row 70

Yorkammer, it cost more than the emirates which is a much higher spec. Common sense suggests that for 400million you should have a roof that fits and the crowd shouldn't be so exposed to the wind. On top of that, the slope of the front row and the circle rather than oval design adds to a stadium that doesn't provide views as good as it should.

I don't think that is the point they are making - I don't think they are complaining that it is over spec'd or that the tender process was flawed.

Lot of comment here on how much was spent on the stadium and how money was wasted. Anyone have any details on what a stadium of this size built on such a site in east London should cost? If not, how can you say it was too much.

I find i odd people think we are going to move, then automatically become a top 4 team. Players come to play for teams for the money or the club. Not the stadium.

Would I prefer a perfect view at UP West Ham drawing at home with Doncaster at or a less than perfect view at OS of West Ham playing the biggest clubs in the country and having the chance to challenge for a Champions League spot.
Let me think ............

Good photohraph but isn't it still a bit wide angle?
I've been in the Stadium and the other end doesn't look as far away with the eye as it does in that photo.
Also that grassed area in the middle is not as long as a football pitch is it.
I'm reserving judgement about this. I would like us to make a sucess of it but like most of you I don't want to have to use binoculars.
