Wall protection for darts
So santa got me a lovely dart board and a nice wood cabinet.

The problem is - I and the first guests were fucking terrible and it's leaving holes all over the wall.

Having had a little search - theres some purpose made wall surrounds but they don't cover much of the wall and I think I need something more drastic.

Only idea I thought was perhaps buying some foam and fitting it with Velcro and just putting it there while (trying to) play.

Anyone know of anything that would protect the wall, around 2/3ft below?

Or a small moat around the line you have to stand behind....

Build a wall in front of the wall you don't want to ruin.

I am often amused by the disparity in answers regarding seemingly inoffensive queries.

This thread has not failed in continuing that theme.

Bra-fucking-vo.

Why don't you just hit the board?

I need to have a look in Wickes or B&Q the next time I'm in.

I've missed a couple of times which isn't the big problem, it's pissed up mates and family who don't really play that are managing to hit nearer the floor than the board...

Re: Wall protection for darts
18mm stuff (which is the standard size) would be too heavy granted, but you can get 6mm sheets from any decent timber yard, and b&q I seem to remember!

Re: Wall protection for darts
nah not 6mm, you could velcro that on easily

MDF is too heavy. You'd have to fix that PROPERLY to the wall rather than just tape it or suchlike.

Get a 6mm sheet of mdf behind it, it wont crumble away as celotex will eventually do and it wont keep falling off!
I know this because I was using celotex as a target for a paslode gun....granted it's a bit more powerful then darts but it got blown to bits!

Re: Wall protection for darts
If you and you guests are so bad you are not just missing the board but also the cabinet then you must be playing as if you have blindfolds on. I suggest moving closer to the board until you improve sufficiently.

Re: Wall protection for darts
Oh, and ditch the cabinet. In fact you'll have to if you do decide to get a surround anyway.

El Scorchio 11:42 Mon Dec 29
Re: Wall protection for darts
Get a surround. They cover more wall than you think and you'll not miss it, even when going for doubles. Added bonus of a surround is that you don't have to attach it to the wall. It just goes round the board snugly.

You can't be bad enough that you miss the board by 2-3 feet after an initial 15 mins practice or so.

yes had similar problem a year or two ago. Solution - go get some split/damaged packet discounted CORK floor tiles 8+mm thick (look out for the ones in the sale) - these with o a peel off sticky back (around 15" x 15") 6 should do it at this size. Put say 4 below and two above the cabinet - works just fine and took seconds to install. Looks smart also. If you really hammer the dart at the cork it will just about penetrate but this the easiest method I'd say. Enjoy

Looked in thinking it had kicked off at the ally pally..but its some DIY nonsense

Re: Wall protection for darts
Stick it to the wall with 3M Command Strips. Won't damage the wall when you take it off.
