Good job we didn't spoil the players hols by beating West Brom...
Just watching Villa beat WBA and it occured to me that had we not lost 4-0 to WBA our players would have had to forego their expenses paid holiday to Dubai. Isn't it an incentive to lose our FA Cup runs...?

And why did so many players get injured during and after a break?

If a break in the sun is so good, why are we so shit after one?

I'd imagine getting on the piss in the sun would probably have a more detrimental effect to health than getting on the piss in various essex boozers. Hydration and all that.

It may benefit most people who actually use their brains as part of their work, as the benefit is purely psychological, but to thick footballers, they probably would be equally happy with a few days in Southend. OK, Southend might be pushing it a bit, but you know what I mean.

Song was in Africa not long ago, so he got his dose of warm sunshine in the winter. Nene, who also stayed behind, has had his fair share of warm weather recently.

Those that went are the ones who have been slogging away in the wonderful english winter for the duration, apart from Kouyate.

It's not about fitness, it's just a break from the cold and wet, to feel the sun on your back, as Allardyce said.

Living in Norway, I feel it is very important to try to get away for a little break during the winter, just to break it up. It helps recharge the batteries. It's a good idea for the squad to do this when they can squeeze it into the schedule, IMHO.

And you believe that shit do you? What scientific benefit to sports performance is there for "sun on your back"?

It's a jolly up that happens to conveniebtly coincide with some lucrative business and media commitments.

How have we done in the first game back from warm weather drinking in the past?

The OS doesn't have results history anymore. I wonder if there is a record of us losing or has it done good in the past

I thought this piece from the Daily Telegraph on Clarkson was very apt for our team that went to Dubai for a bit of team bonding...

Top Gear is actually about male camaraderie and the way men get on by taking the piss out of each other, not by saying: “He was there for me”. (The unspoken rule is that men who bond never do anything as naff as banging on about “bonding”.)

Or you could look at it as Song has the hump, is acting up and wouldn't go, which I am sure is exactly how this would be spun if the player in question staying behind was Andy Carroll or Kevin Nolan.

Not saying that's true, but it's all about how you want to interpret things, isn't it. And there are some fucking masters of supposition on here.

"The midfielder was given permission by manager Sam Allardyce to remain at Chadwell Heath to train with West Ham United’s Development Squad while the first team were away in Dubai.

Having worked hard alongside young professionals and scholars for four days, the No30 is feeling back to his best..."

Yep. He hates the idea of a jolly up and free holiday. Nothing to do with preferring to look after his two young children...

Re: Good job we didn't spoil the players hols by beating West Brom...
He preferred to stay behind to develop his fitness levels, the others didn't need fitness level training so were training on something different.

So your still wrong and the horse is long dead.

Re: Good job we didn't spoil the players hols by beating West Brom...
Well there's a surprise. Alex Song preferred to stay behind and train hard rather than go to Dubai... Even got permission from SA.

So it was definitely a jolly after all in spite of what all the pro-Allardyce posters said!

They seemed to be really enjoying themselves - Sakho, Cole, Demel etc at the Blue Marlin sipping water and other soft refreshments. The other ones, Downing, Nolan, Cresswell Noble etc et al at the Rixos hotel smoking and boozing!

Good on em!

Actually my personal view is that with a 10 day gap the team should have a break. From each other and BFS.
After the Chelsea game I would have told them to have 5 days off to do what they like and be back in Monday morning.
The weather is hardly so bleak as it is at Christmas to require flying away and many would just prefer a few days with their families at home watching England in the cricket. Or whatever
