Apparently Moscow has made capturing jihadi john a priority and are sending the Speznaz to find him, according to US intelligence.

I'd love to see that fucker done to death in the gulag.

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
Of course it does - but isn't that the feature of all foreign policy. We are starting to see, just starting to see what a multi-polar world with a, shall we say, less active American foreign policy is like, and it ain't pretty.

And yes, that is probably true of the states and deaths, but China and Russia probably wouldn't be too far behind given their support of the "other side" in a number of those conflicts.

But the alternatives history to the American century isn't necessarily or even likely to have been a story of peace.

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
Not sure that it is suddenly "divide and rule" as it appears to have been policy for a good few years. I doubt that harmony from Europe to the Pacific would appeal to the US strategists.

Don't disagree with your comments about China and Russia but it is not a contest about who is least bad. And I think I am right in saying that the US has been responsible for more overseas deaths than any other country since the end of WW2.

It doesn't make all the US does bad and it certainly doesn't make all American people bad but current policy has self interest rather than peace as prime objective.

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
Monk. Not entirely sure what you are talking about. Many have complained about Washington's aggressive foreign policy for years. When it pulls back from new wars and shies away from putting boots on the ground suddenly it's a "divide and rule".

the yanks have done many many bad things in their time (though these pail beside what Russia and China has done to their own people in just about living memory), but the reactions. Ow simply go to prove that nothing they do will ever be right.

when are we going to be ALLOWED use the 'OIL ALTERNATIVE'
then leave all these cunts broke, and shuffling about in the sand again?

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
Even by US shocking record of interfering in other countries its strategy over Syria appears to be breathtakingly incompetent..

On the other hand divide and rule may continue to serve its purpose. The problem with Syria though is that refugees are causing problems in Washington's vassal states in Europe.

It's quite funny that those who complained that the yanks did everything because of oil are silent now.

Putin is a classic resource curse dictator like Gaddafi of Saddam, using military adventures to keep his people distracted while he and his cronies loot the country.

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
agree on the great tactics / poor strategy. Fuck knows where he is going with this long-term.

Be interesting to see what happens when the first surface to air missile makes its way from Saudi to Syria, or the first bomb goes off in Russia.

Russia should be in a golden position between Europe and China but is instead got itself dragged into a conflict with Europe and the USA and now into the fucked up sandpit of Syria between warring Muslim factions,

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
absolutely. i saw a programme with someone from Chatham House (which is a preeminent think tank0 saying that Russia gets the tactics right but the long term strategy wrong. If this episode weans us off the oil and frees us from the Saudi curse then all the better. But, and i stress this BUT, saudi will pump in loads of weapons and support to any anti Russian group, including ISIS. Saudi TV is already playing this as a 'crusade' by the Christians against Islam:

Seems a bit of an effort to go to to get some pretty fucked up client states, al, while their economic miles are sliding down the drain.

And as the yanks found out in Iraq even quick victories turn into long term defeats.

China will also not be pleased to cede control of the worlds oil markets from America to China.

They can fucking keep it in my book - pump more shale oil in the US and drive the switch to renewables and electric vehicles.

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
Ben talking about the strategy just now in the pub

1. take out the 'moderate opposition' making it a choice of Assad or ISIS

2. Rout ISIS in Syria, making a client state whole again and looking like the good guys in the process

3. Use that as an excuse to invade northern Iraq to chase down the rump of ISIS, while the Iranians secure backing from the shiite government in Baghdad.

Wrap up a lot of the middle east into the new 'near abroad' while taking over the northern Iraqi oil fields.

The fella must eat masculinity on toast every morning.I'd still do him in an arm wrestle though. If it's all true about tank build up and boots ready to go in to Syria Putin will lead the charge on his Horse bare chested, I still think his a bit of a cunt

Re: Vladimir Putin a proper geezer
Been checking out some Russian news sources....apparently their only aircraft carrier is on the way to Syria and there's also a significant build up of Russian tanks and other equipment ready to be shipped to Syria, suggesting a ground campaign is in the offing.

Iraq leans toward Russia in war on Islamic State

'Iraq may request Russian air strikes against Islamic State on its soil soon and wants Moscow to have a bigger role than the United States in the war against the militant group, the head of parliament’s defense and security committee said on Wednesday.'

raqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has said he would welcome Russian air strikes on Islamic State militants in Iraq and powerful Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias hope for a partnership with Russia to counter U.S. influence.

“We are seeking to see Russia have a bigger role in Iraq. … Yes, definitely a bigger role than the Americans,” Zamili said.

Shi’ite militias, long mistrustful of the United States, see Russia’s intervention as an opportunity to turn the tables.

“The Russian intervention came at the right time and right place and we think it will change all rules of the game not only in Syria but in Iraq also,” said Muen al-Kadhimi, an aide to Hadi al-Amiri, the most powerful Shi’ite militia leader.

“The government has been relying heavily on an untrustworthy ally, which is the United States, and this fault should be fixed.”
