Marc-Vivien Foe
Was watching an old season review last night and it reminded me what a good player he was for us.

Aside from the obvious tragic death of the man, what are your memories of his time with us.

Remember watching his debut away at Wimbledon.

From memory he was perhaps under utilised at times.

"Sent wide nicely... by Marc-Vivien Foe, Sinclair's cross, over Cunnigham, Di Canio OH, I do not believe that. That is sensational, even by his standards"

Re: Marc-Vivien Foe
He had an aura about him, looked like a slender tall assured player to me, and looked good in Claret and Blue. .

I remember Keane trying to hit him in a 50/50..Foe just stepped back Keane dived in and Foe strolled off with the ball.

Re: Marc-Vivien Foe
His last act as a West Ham player was sinking his boot into a Leeds player who was on the ground.

Re: Marc-Vivien Foe
Think we sold him to buy Kanoute.

Heaven forbid us ADDING quality to our squad back then.

I remember him (Foe) being on the bench a lot as Arry preferred Lomas in the holding role.

I liked Lomas a lot but Foe had so much more imo. Typical of Arry back then with his favouritisms.

Re: Marc-Vivien Foe
Thought he was great at what he did, never replaced him properly and fuck did it tell. We struggled big time once he moved on

Re: Marc-Vivien Foe
He was like a battleship in midfield rarely lost a tackle and did the simple thing. I couldn't believe it when they sold him. That was the wat West Ham were at the time

He was a great player, criminally underrated while with us. Thought it at the time too.

Re: Marc-Vivien Foe
He was indomitable in midfield when playing well. He seemed to struggle for motivation at times though - a bit like Kanouté.

Mallard, think that was his second game?

Believe Scott MINTO made his debut in the same game.

Both had a mare that day!

Re: Marc-Vivien Foe
I remember him being very slow across the ground to be honest. An OK player, but not the superstar some recall.

Sorry to tarnish the positive reviews, but he was absolute dog-shit when Arsenal spanked us 4-0 at home

As mentioned before so won't bore you - but my abiding memory was getting him to the club.

You're all welcome!

At the time an african playing that holding centre mid role was unique. Nowadays every prem club has one

I seem to remember Man United going in for him shortly before he signed for us?

Remember that Di Canon pic on the front of HAMMERS NEWS.

Di Canio clambering all over him in the shirt holding when they signed.

Proper big smile on the fella.

Tragic what happened.
