Sonarz, does it have any credibility?

I had not heard of it until now.

No, it is not spot on. Makes it sound like charity is the main motivation for most runners. Is it fuck. And those for which it is, I know of no sadder, self-righteous pricks.

I checked the link in the op out of curiosity, which led me to some of the other stories, the one about the Lithuanian woman who was fined after foraging THREE BAGS of wild mushrooms in Epping forest was my favourite.

Hermit.

Maybe they were taking the bottles of water to their local food bank to donate to the poor people. Just being civic-minded, like.

Re: Stealing water bottles from the London Marathon
its a bit rash of people to see a video of people stealing, read quotes from the race organisers saying they're stealing, and then assume that they might be stealing.

Must be racists. It's the only possible explanation.

My office is in Deptford, no one even bothers to come out and support the runners, the café opposite me puts a sign out every year

"Welcome to Deptford, now run like your life depends on it, because it does"

The sign gets taken every year by the officials.

Only time the locals come out is to thieve

Re: Stealing water bottles from the London Marathon
Scum, you could well be right. I have simply passed on an opinion of someone, used to manning a Deptford water station, based on their experience. As for Buxton being in attendance etc. Their practice has been to deliver, ensure that their advertising is in place and basically never return.

comma

The fact buxton came out and said they never gave the green light to take it and the fact the London Marathon are now beefing up security for next year to stop it happening again suggests thats bollocks.

No idea but seems reasonable. Being around even medium size events, manpower, even in terms of volunteer wrangling, costs more than a lot of physical items which are often donated or very discounted.

I have thought this was overblown from the beginning mostly by people who want to take a "subtle" shot at certain other groups.

Re: Stealing water bottles from the London Marathon
Yesterday I happened to speak to someone who has manned a marathon water station in Deptford for several years. She told me that as their station comes early in the race they only distribute about 20% of the water delivered to them. Traditionally because nobody official comes to collect the water left over the people manning the station simply leave it to the locals. She said if you look at the picture you will see empty bottles laying there that have been discarded by the runners which indicates to her that this so called raid on the station was nothing of the sort but simply people taking unused stock as they have been used to doing over the years.
