Taking the kids out of school turing term time to go abroad
News just breaking that a parent has successfully appealed against receiving a fine for taking his daughter to Disney land

Any idea if this could lead to parents making claims for fines that they have already paid

The fuckers that are Havering Council find me £200 for taking my kids abroad for a week which was their only absence that year.

I bet you didn't get through a single day at school without getting beaten up.

Can't believe nobody has asked Sold0' to elaborate on his daughter's top set.

To be honest.

I had no idea this was a thing until two days ago. I'm staggered that it's even legal to issue fines like this (the latest court case suggests it may not be) and stunned anyone would have paid up in the past. Class action law suit should be the way forward.

Like clockword hermit. Ive never said teachers are lazy cunts. Ones like you just cannot take any kind of criticism can you.

I approached the teacher each time and asked what could potentially be missed, and did they have any material i could take with me.

People like mad dog come across well on here. It worries me people with your attitude are teaching the youth of today. It really does. Now run along and go on strike. Good lad.

Daughters school is on American Hours... has to be in school at 7:45 for register... 1st lesson at 8am... she has 30 mins lunch break... finishes at 2pm BUT is expected to go straight into Homework club for an hour or so... if she does that she still has an easy hour + in homework... on Thursday she has triple dance so has no chance of doing any homework so it's a panic up her getting up an hour earlier to get it done... all too much if you ask me.... SO as long as her attendance is good I have never had a problem at all taking her out the odd week (probably done it 4 or 5 times over her schooling)... she's top sets and top 5%... so obviously the occasional down times is not hurting her at all... and like I said earlier maybe the little owarning of work well or no holiday works in her case... bribe ?? Yeah probably

You're a proper piss taker. Maybe the teachers knew you were on here every week slagging them off, so didn't fancy going out of their way to compensate for you putting the beach before your kids' education. Out of interest, how did you approach them? Did you tell them they're lazy, moaning cunts before you asked them to do extra, unpaid work to save you £50?

Penners is full of shit.

I've offered him a free accomodation deal to make up for the additional travel costs during term time.

We all know people like him, but I just find it sad that some will moan rather than try to resolve situations.

I repeat - Penners, accomodation is at cost (usually 17,500.00 per fortnight).

Please forward this on to the parent/teacher association.

Exactly, send the kids to Bognor Regis or Aberdeen. They ain't gonna know the difference between Mickey Mouse World or Pontins as long as it's got waterslides and fun.

If they're old enough to understand culture you can pack them off to Barcelona, or Estonia.

So not only do you take the piss by taking your kids out of their class, but then take the piss again by asking for a free personalised tutoring plan for the little mites. No wonder the teachers told you to piss off.

And people complain about schools being full of unruly kids full of self entitlement

This comes from the parents whingey attitudes being mirrors by their kids.

If you can't afford to go to Disney world then take the kids to Skegness, it won't emotionally scar them or impact upon their human rights.

Or call a sickie and show your kids the rewards of lying

In a little over a year, the last of mine will have finished with the secondary school system, and I for one will be delighted not to have to deal with secondary school teachers anymore, the majority of whom I find limited, and often petty in the extreme.

Once appointed, their world seems to shrink to the size of the school, and they seem to become unaware of the fact that there might be a larger world out there.

This is a good school with above average results, 78% of pupils achieving 5+ A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and maths GCSEs in 2015.

Forgot to add. Last 2 years we have asked the teacher for work to take away with us, and both times they said not to worry.

You facilitated their learning of it, Mad Dog, you didn't "teach" them.

If you think you can "teach" somebody something in a UNIFORM way you sound like one of those bad teachers to me...

Re: Taking the kids out of school turing term time to go abroad
***sighs***

If demand were spread equally among every week of the year, every week of the year would cost the same.

The point is that the law-abiding parents are currently punished twice. Firstly by having to pay more for their holidays and secondly by their children being held back by returning children who have to be brought up to speed. This is unfair.

If people have the 'right' to a free education for their kids, then they have a 'responsibilty' to ensure their kids attend school. All the rest is a mere excuse to justify financial opportunism at the expense of others.

Yes but it would be cheaper

if they charged the summer price all year long there would be no customers

I went to Lanzarote last August and the plane was a 3rd full

Re: Taking the kids out of school turing term time to go abroad
Nicey's point is that if everybody was allowed to take their kids out of school during term-time, holidays would not be cheaper in term-time.

*Your first point is stupid, Economics and S&D are not going to **be better** understood better just because you didn't go away **in term time**.
