Smart TV / Kodi boxes
Thinking of getting one of these as I have fucked those cunts at Sky off.

Looking on ebay and it's a minefield. Anyone know what's a good make to get, how easy it is to upload whatever is you need to get free sports/movies etc? Mate of mine paid £150 but seems you can get some a lot cheaper. Anyone got one/ideas on reputable supplier? cheers

Agent Scud you have Who mail.

Gents - on the T95 Max models do any of you have instructions on getting the VPN aspect going - need this up and running out here for UK catch up (i players etc). No instructions with the box on this and it does not seem to be the usual easy Laptop VPN style load and go - unless I'm missed something. Any info?

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
I have a £30 android box and a Fire TV both are good. I wiped the android box and upgraded to The Jarvis 16 Kodi on the android box and loaded it on the Fire TV. I have also loaded the Pulse CCM build from Ares. There is little discernible difference between both boxes and there is an awful lot of content you can watch. I tend to delete those add ons that I don't want. You can add a Sportnation account separately for the sports streams but I just use Adrian most of the time. You can find out how to load all of this by googling "SEO Michael" and his site will tell you how to load anything step by step.

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
I bought a loaded fire stick on e-bay - within 2 weeks the while set up had just disappeared.

However with a bit of googling and you tubing I managed to install add ons and now have access to all I need.

The fire stick is in our second living room where we have all our baby boys play things, Exodus works great for us with all the kids films and TV programmes and when he falls asleep, there are films for us to watch in great HD.

For £30 a month for a full Sky TV package with multi room which is what I pay it's worth keeping for now. It's the convenience and worth it for me.

However Kodi is really easy to install and do add on's too yourself - either pay the £55 on Ebay for a loaded one and hopefully it won't wipe itself within 2 weeks or buy a fire stick for £35 yourself and spend a bit of time on YouTube and work out how to do it yourself. To me I'd take a punt on Ebay and cross my fingers, I'd rather have an hour of my life than save £20 playing with a box but we all differ with that.

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
I've got a couple of T95m boxes that are both running fine after a few months of heavy use.

They're under £30 a pop.

Worth shelling that out just to see if you like it.

If you like retro gaming or your kids do then get a raspberry pii 3 , a couple of fake snes controllers from eBay and you can set up kodi and an arcade machine in one. If you have a Samsung tv your controller will work for kodi too

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
Like someone said earlier if your tv is a smart tv and on android just download kodi from the play store and put wookie on it. Then your all sorted.

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
A good feature of Exodus is the ability to watch the trailers for the newer films that don't yet have a decent copy uploaded!

There are some excellent 1080p versions on exodus

Great for TV shows as well

As anybody ever gone onto the addons website and made a donation?

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
Oh yes, get a keyboard (not the little one as it's pants, I had one of those cheap kidney shaped ones with rubber keys and it was dreadful), I have this one:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Wireless-Keyboard-QWERTY-Layout/dp/B00XJ3LVPI/ref=sr_1_14?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1478255260&sr=1-14&keywords=logitech+wireless+keyboard

It's more money but well worth it and I am sure there are other good ones too.

Plus pay Sportsnation the 50 notes, best 50 quid you will spend all year.

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
I have heard the T8 AML box is good and I can testify that the Amazon Fire TV box (not stick) is amazing, I have two of them.

It is better because I have Netflix and Amazon Prime subs but you don't need these as it handles Kodi really, really well, I watch Kodi on it more than Netflix and Amazon Prime. I have one in my son's room connected but powerline adaptors and it's a top bit of kit, much better and faster hardware than the android box I had before.

Re: Smart TV / Kodi boxes
Bill - before buying a box you should get to grips with Kodi. It's the same whether you are running it on Android, Linux (which most of the dedicated boxes are), Windows, Mac or even jailbroken iPhones.

https://kodi.tv/download/

I would suggest that you download the Windows version and then start installing the various addons - see the XBMC/Kodi thread for the latest recommended ones. It is going to be much easier to use a laptop/desktop keyboard and copying and pasting links from various websites than trying to use remotes and fiddly keyboards that you are not used to. When you're happy with how Kodi works and setting it up, then look at a suitable box for your needs.

I run Kodi off 3 Raspberry Pi in different rooms which each cost about £35 all in, although I will probably go for an Amazon Fire Box next as 4k content starts to become available. Whatever you do, make sure that whatever box you buy has an Ethernet port (which is all of the boxes) and not something like a Fire Stick which only has wifi.
