West Ham Modern Legends
|
Just had a thought while taking a dumb.
What players in the modrn era would be considered legens/ikons for west ham.
Lets say modern as in from 2000.
Collins? for long term service and herov perfomances?
Reid? Maybe not yet but a couple more seasons?

Vexed, agreed.
Parker was excellent for us, but to get any kind of legend status needs to include longevity and keeping it sweet all the way. Parker did neither. I have no dislike for him, for the effort he put in, but I won't put him in the same bracket as Noble or Ginge, for example.
I may include Reid in these, to be fair, as long as he doesn't end up throwing a strop to get a move to a bitter rival.
I will add Paolo, he has to be in there.
There's a case for Harewood and Zamora, too.
Obviously, these get nowhere near the true legend status of your Moores, Brookings and Bonds types.

I'm not having Parker. The way he ended his career here was a borderline disgrace. Bottled the last few games then moved to this cunts.Up until that point he had been fucking massive for us. Disappointing end.

Agree about Parker, we had his best years and he gave everything for us, remember seeing him get kicked in the head quite a lot.

Shouldn't have sold Collins to Villa.
I wonder who made that decision.

Players just aren't as likeable as they used to be. These days they're spoilt by money from a young age and don't really have much in common with the average fan.
CARLTON and Mark Noble strikes me as some of the few genuinely likeable players we've had over the past few years, although neither of them are really good enough to be considered legends.

For me noble and find are the only ones that come close, with an outside shout for Winston. It's a different ers though so your alvins, bonds's and Devonshire's don t really exist anymore.

We have a lot of modern day cult heroes rather than modern day legends.
Truth be told hardly anyone 'good' enough to be legendary sticks around long enough at a club like West Ham these days. It' all about stepping to the top of the tree as quick as possible.

Ginger Pele on the next level.
On a different tip, Carlton and Dailly.
