IT (2017) - "Beep, Beep, Ritchie"

Anyone seen it yet?

Going tomorrow. Trailers look OK but not keen on the new look Pennywise, the original looked 'creepier'

Does it follow the same story as the original or have they mixed it up a bit?

no they have still cut loads of the story, you'd need a lot more than 4-5 hours to do the book properly

So they dragged out half the story instead of doing it in one. Sounds like the Hobbit but in 2 not 3 movies.

Just seen it - I really enjoyed it, the child actors were excellent although some of the 'let's all perv on the 12 year old girls' scenes were a little bit mill house

I've read the book and there are some very big changes (the bullies' respective demises - shame they didn't go for the Frankenstein option and also they'll have to do something different with a key part of chapter two now) but it still works very well in its own right.

Bets on who will play the adult characters in the second part? I'll start with Amy Adams as Beverley (although I did also think she actually has a similar shape face to pennywise...)

To be honest, Stan is not all that developed in the book, so the film is ok there. But for some reason they have massively downgraded Mike Hanlon and altered his background completely.
Even shifted the whole history of the town away from him.

I thought it was quite good but then again I was led to believe it was pony so it may be an expectations thing.

Nothing can beat the book which reading as a young teenager scared the living crap out of me.

The lack of characterisation of the black and Jewish kid would get me being suspicious if I were that way inclined to be.

bruuuuno,

i thought it was great because the last horror film i can think of where i actually gave a shit about the characters rather than waiting for the next scare, was The Babadook. Had a good villain, but also good protagonists. I saw Annabelle last week, which also had good reviews, but i thought it was pretty boring. Not here. I'm very much looking forward to the next one.

The creature called IT is obviously not a clown at all. IT is an ancient evil being that is perhaps billions of years old, as old as the universe itself. IT comes from the void that contains our entire universe called the Macroverse (this is also referred to as the Todash Darkness in Stephen King’s Dark Tower novels). IT’s home dimension is a realm called the Deadlights; in the novel, Billy (played by Jaeden Lieberher in the 2017 film) glimpsed IT’s true form in the Deadlights for a moment and he described it as an endless, crawling, hairy creature made of orange light. Though IT likes to manifest itself as a male clown named Pennywise, in the novel IT also takes the form of an enormous female spider. IT’s natural enemy is another being from the Macroverse called The Turtle. The Turtle also appears in The Dark Tower series as Maturin, one of the Guardians of the Beam. IT describes itself as “the superior being” compared to the Turtle.

IT arrived on Earth in a cataclysmic event millions of years ago, landing in the section of North America where the town of Derry, Maine, would eventually be built. IT slumbered beneath the Earth for millions of years, awaiting the arrival of Mankind.

I agree, did kind of have bits of Stand by Me/Goonies moments in it.

I enjoyed it and some good comedy moments especially the one liners from the stereotypical speccy kid.

It did have its scary/jumpy moments but the film has lots of unanswered things in it. Like why is the clown doing this? Who is he? Where did all this start? You only kind of know parts of these things but it is more left to your imagination than fact.

when I first heard he was cast I thought his brother Gustav mayhave been better, could easily see him using Floki in Vikings as a base for an evil clown
