Saturday football
|
An almost full Saturday fixture list with a couple of juicy games thrown in for a change. Some tasty hors d’oeuvres to whet the appetite for tomorrow’s main course. __________________________________________
ARSENAL vs TOTTENHAM (1230 ko) Commentators and pundits will be creaming themselves at the prospect of this one. It’s a tough one to predict, with all three outcomes equally likely. Arsenal don’t have a good recent record against their beloved neighbours, but can they make home advantage count today? Draw.
BOURNEMOUTH vs HUDDERSFIELD Are Huddersfield the new Bournemouth? They’ve already garnered 15 points in what has to be a campaign focused solely on survival. Goals have been in short supply for both teams this season – home and away, both have managed just three goals apiece. Whatever their present league positions, you’d expect both managers to view this as a six pointer. Home win.
BURNLEY vs SWANSEA If you haven’t looked at the table of late, you may be surprised to find Burnley in 7th position – with only goal difference separating them from Arsenal and Liverpool. The picture’s less rosy for the Swans, who seems to be suffering a crisis of confidence. Can only see this going one way. Home win.
CRYSTAL PALACE vs EVERTON There’ll be a pall of misery hovering above Selhurst Park this afternoon. The summer prospect of a positive season for these two teams has quickly turned into one of disaster mitigation. Yes, I know that sounds familiar. You feel that the first goal will be crucial. Draw.
LEICESTER vs MAN CITY Can anyone stop Man City? It doesn’t look like it. The Foxes’ recent upturn will give them some confidence, but will Claude Puel feel he has any alternative to packing midfield and hoping to negate Citeh’s attacking prowess? Could be a rather dull game. Away win.
LIVERPOOL vs SOUTHAMPTON Several auld acquaintances will be renewed this afternoon, but it’s hard to imagine any charity coming from the home team. The Saints have won away just once this season – a 1-0 win at Palace – and have struggled to score. There’s a strong sense of one-sidedness about this. Home win.
WEST BROM vs CHELSEA The Baggies’ last league victory was 10 games ago. Their opposition today will hope to increase that figure. Despite all we know about Tony Pullis’s strategic preferences, I’ve got a feeling this could be a surprisingly open and entertaining game. Away win.
MAN UTD vs NEWCASTLE (1730 ko) Now this could be a corker. Newcastle have made a solid return to the top flight thus far, but will be tested by a Manchester team that could see Paul Pogba back in the team. There have also been murmurings of an Ibrahimovich return. Rafa Benitez has little to lose by setting his team up to attack and we could have a tasty match on our screens if that’s what he does. Home win.

I was just looking at the table and we are not actually in a very bad position, just 6 points between us and 8th place a few wins and we can easily be a quite a good position. Big gap of 7 points between 8th and 7th and then you have the usual top 6 and Burnley.
Actually not much in it from 8th to 20th. Obviously feels better to be in 8th than 20th, but could be any team from that lot that goes down.

the Burnely/Swansea prediction game is a bit outrageous and unrealistic, but all the others look highly possible.....

I was just reading about the results Boxing Day 1963 when I spotted this thread. And given the quality of Score predicting and results here is abysmal (Sorry Coffee, great thread otherwise) I thought we would have as good a chance by substituting those results in alphabetical order
Arsenal 1 Spurs 5 Bournemouth 6 Huddersfield 1 Brighton 10 Stoke 1 Burnley 2 Swansea 0 Crystal Palace 6 Everton 1 Leicester 3 Man City 3 Liverpool 3 Southampton 0 Man U 4 Newcastle 4 Watford 2 West Ham 8 West Brom 3 Chelsea 3
In otherwords A,H,H,H,D,H,D,A,D
Now although this unlikely sequence of results happened 19,686 days ago I am told history can repeat itself so they are long overdue. Have a punt, bookies will be shitting themselves!

Dispiriting that we are back in the mode of looking for the results of Bournemouth & West Brom first as need to keep lots of teams close while we get the jumper leads out & try & get going.
Understand Wenger hasn’t beaten Spurs since Pochettino turned up but don’t think the ARGIE has won at Arsenal yet. Massive game really, if Spurs can win you could feel like the balance of power has started to change. Even though Spurs are yet to win SWEET FUCK ALL. Nothing. Nada. Zilch
