Is it a strange one... it's definitely not a fun listen, but musically and emotionally its incredible.

Nursey, I could have sworn I typed Nick Cave too. Oh well, I like Nick Drake too. Black Eyed Dog and a few others recorded towards the end are quite haunting to listen to.

I'm not surprised Nick Drake's other stuff leaves you cold. 'Into my Arms' is by Nick Cave.

I love 'Into My Arms' by Nick Drake. Now that's a SONG. But otherwise I can't listen to him.

Joey5000 - how did you manage to listen to Mount Eerie? I tried at different times during the year, but just couldn't hack it. The line about deciding when to throw away his wife's toothbrush was tough, as was his daughter's backpack arriving in the post which his wife has ordered before she died. I just had to switch it off. It might be a great album, but I'm not strong enough to make it through more than 2 or 3 songs at a time! Last year I loved Leonard Cohen's album and Nick Drake, and these were both shadowed by death, but the Mount Eerie album was on another level.
This year I can't get my albums down to a top 10, so it's an alphabetical top 12 instead:
Big Thief - Capacity Future Islands - The Far Field HAIM - Something to Tell You Laura Marling - Semper Femina Lorde - Melodrama Moses Sumney - Aromanticism Perfume Genius - No Shape Rina Sawayama - RINA SZA - Ctrl The National - Sleep Well Beast The War On Drugs - A Deeper Understanding Vince Staples - Big Fish Theory
If I were to choose a favourite, it'd be between Future Islands, Lorde or Rina.
