Re: Joshua fight
last night showed me Joshua is streets ahead of wilder.

if AJ sticks to his boxing it wcould be an easy night for him , if he negates wilder down the pipe leveler.

he looked lost against Otriz , but he does have that get out of jail card , but as a boxer Aj is streets ahead and getting better

And that's before we even get onto the superb crop of heavyweights the world saw in the 70s.

Re: Joshua fight
Yeah you could see him a bit stunned a few times when Joshua picked out a couple of counters on him when he was trying to get under. I think there and then he thought fuck it ill hold out for a points decision but at least i can have another crack at some point.

Re: Joshua fight
It might be a tiny bit stronger as a division than it has been for 15 years, but it's still very poor by historical standards.

The top five heavyweights all have serious flaws in their technique - including the two best in Joshua and Wilder.

AJ may or may not be the best of the lot - I guess we'll find out when he fights Wilder. They can both bang.

But any decent champion of the 80s or 90s would wipe the floor with all of this current crop. Forget Lewis, Holmes,Tyson and Holyfield (all excellent heavyweights by historical standards), even the likes of Bonecrusher Smith (a good, but limited, champion) would sit atop the current rankings.

AJ and Wilder are big guys who can certainly tag. But neither of them has a decent defence and both are there to be shot at. AJ lacks the sort of footwork you'd have needed to take on Lewis, Holmes, Holyfield or Tyson. Wilder's open stance invites a crushing, constant jab. Lewis or Holmes would have made a mess of his face within eight rounds.

Re: Joshua fight
I think the division is the strongest it's been for a while with a group of younger guys who can all bang.

The styles just didn't gell last night and Parker just wasn't positive enough given his big chance. That said, he probably felt Joshua's power early realised how careful he needed to be.

Rahman and McCall were awful?

Re: Joshua fight
Thought Lewis fought some decent fighters during his career... Ruddock, Rahman, McCall, Vitali Klit, Tucker... even Biggs when he had his non drugged up head on would all give parker a shoeing I reckon...

Re: Joshua fight
It was much worse 5-10 years ago. Probably the best it's been in 20 years- which isn't saying much. But even then it was only really Lewis and holyfield and a past it Tyson. Lewis fought plenty of people much worse than Joseph Parker.

Re: Joshua fight
Had 14 of us round our gaff last night.... far more excitement in the Price fight... the AJ Parker was pretty tedious... not helped by the ref... but end of the day ... job done... we all said last night that for us this is the poorest we can remember in the heavyweight division... I can see Foreman coming out of retirement at this stage...

Re: Joshua fight
I thought the Referee ruined it but for both fighters. Parker might have wanted to come in close but it would have also given Joshua the opportunity to hit an uppercut like the one he hit Klitschko with. As for Joshua becoming arrogant, show me a boxer who isn't, Fury is just a idiot with a mouth on him that gets him into trouble half the time.

The Heavyweight division hasn't been top class for years. Even the Klitschko's wouldn't have lived with the greats of the past and they topped the division for years.

AJ has potential but he looks vulnerable when in the way Frank Bruno did - a lot of plusses and a big punch but he looks like a big hitter could really trouble him. However you can't knock the guy at least he isn't dodging anyone and went 12 rounds last night which many thought he couldn't do albeit against a poor World Champion!

Having said that the likes of Tyson, Lewis and Hollyfield would top this bunch for years let alone the likes of Ali, Foreman and Frazier.

Tyson would've been in the limo sniffing gear off two of Americas top models bum holes within 2 and a half minutes.

Neither would last more than 3 rounds with any of the real past champions, Parker would be on his arse in the first round.

Would love someone to wipe the smug grin off Hearn Jnr's face. Smug nasty entitled piece of work.

As a 13 year old was a wanker and doubt he's changed since!

It sounds rubbish, I'd be annoyed if I'd paid money to watch it.

Re: Joshua fight
Has there ever been another fight for multiple heavyweight world titles where neither boxer suffers any damage?

Joshua came forward more, and landed more, and deservedly won based on that, but Parker landed more combinations, and was more successful when things got a bit messy, which the ref successfully (?) managed to keep to a minimum.

Bit of a shame that the fight was so shit, because watching those two throw bombs at each other would have been a great way to spend a Sunday morning.

Re: Joshua fight
Parker knew that his only hope was yo get under the jab. He tried it a few times and got a smack, and them he bottled it for the rest of the fight.

That fight reminded me of a match between Rick the Model Martell and Shawn Michaels where they were banned from hitting each other in the face.

I don’t think any fan or promoter will be in a hurry to see Parker fight again.
