Long weekend close to HK?
|
Going to be in HK in a few weeks for work and looking to fly somewhere for a few days at the end to see something different.
Needs to be a shortish / cheap flight and I've done Vietnam / Thailand previously.
Taiwan / South Korea look like potentials, although the flight to Seoul is lengthy.
Any local knowledge or recommendations on places worth a few nights?

BTW
you can get a visa on arrival from memory the same as Macau.
If you want no beach and a lot of gambling and drinking then Macau is a good bet. Takes more money across the tables than Vegas.
Not as nice as Vegas though, but lots going on, shows, music concerts etc

Sanya is only a couple of hour flight and has a nice chilled beach resort. Some good hotels there. the ones on the beach are more expensive, obviously and very nice, however I stayed over the road and got a private villa with private pool and was more like a mini villa in a hotel, and then walked the 100 yards to the beach. which is about the same distance if you get a room in one of the big hotels on the beach.

No problem, but let's face it you knew you were going to go to Taipei when you started this thread.

So after people offering up good advise you are just going with what you said in your OP anyway. Marvelous.

China has visa free entry to some of the cities if you are en route to somewhere outside China.

Cheers lads.
Some good recommendations, but some lengthy flights as only intending to have 2-3 days. China despite being closer looks like a ball ache due to Visa requirements / cost.
Going to have a look at Taipei, shortish flight from HK and reasonably cheap.

Well, North and South Vietnam are quite different from one another. Not been to Central VN but understand that is different again.
Cebu, Philippines might be worth a weekend.
Or Siem Reap/ Angkor in Cambodia?

Imagine what driving in London would be like if cars were never fitted with indicators. Or if it was the norm to pull out in front of oncoming traffic on the assumption that they would avoid you. Not that many motorbikes fortunately.

We were only in Georgetown for 2 nights, but we enjoyed it. We had a cheap Indian restaurant over the road where I watched the Chelsea game. All the food was really good.
Lots to like. Not much to dislike. ..
Apart from the driving.
