England win the world cup
I know it's not going to happen , but if it did.

You'd have Harry Kane lifting the world cup and Bobby Moore lifting it would not be so important to the masses!

Deli Ali could score the winner, so you'd not hear those iconic words when Geoff Hurst scored so much "They think it's all over, it is now!"

Worst of all you have all the spuds going on about their players winning the world cup.

I am English and i want us to win it, but wow could i take all of the above, I am not sure?

I know it’s only football but the comments on here are the reason why England is not the England we should know, unity is strong!

Just get behind the team. They are england players not spurs players in this tournament. If we do it, let the spurs fans run their mouths and just laugh about it like everyone does when we say we won the world cup.

It would be a great thing except there will be a generation of post-18ers who think football only started in 2018 and is normally played in "soulless bowls" by teams comprised mostly of foreign players and staff.

And in the new years honours list - Sir Dele Alli.

I enjoy the World Cup - and I enjoy the fact that the country is on a high because we've won.

I just don't feel as passionate about it, as iam with West Ham.

Not sure what's been said before but if it makes some feel easier about such a scenario (very unlikely IMO) then they will have to go some way to "better" what happened in '66.

1.Skipper
2.Scorers of all 4 goals (including, still, the only player to score a hat-trick in the final)
3.Three assists

Beat that.

Re: England win the world cup
I feel the same way.

I'd take West Ham winning an egg cup over England winning the World Cup, but as they're separate entities who don't complete, I want my country to do the business.

Like West Ham, though, more often than not it's an task supporting them, but we stick by them.

I feel sorry for you if you can't put club rivalries aside for a month and enjoy the world cup. Last night was great.

By the way Pub Bigot, I'm not suggesting that you wouldn't love West Ham winning the league, or that I would love it more than you would.

I am a glory hunter. I supported west Ham after 66. The fact I ended up living near the ground is irrelevant.
I support England because its England. I like this England team. I like the way they play.

Pub Bigot,

Mate, don't over analyse what I've said. Ive clearly stated the reasons for me not being over struck on following England. It's how I feel - it's irrational, not logical.

I understand why you or anyone else do not feel the same as I do, and that's why I envy you - you would love it if England won the World Cup. If England won the World Cup, I would enjoy it - but no where near as much as West Ham winning the League.

With regards to the current crop of players, yes, they are more likeable than the more previous England squads - but like I said on my previous post, that isn't much.

Re: England win the world cup

You don't envy us though, otherwise you would put aside rivalries.

West Ham have such a rich English history, the greatest captain club and country have ever known and how could you not feel connected to that?

England are also followed by Millwall, Spurs, Man United, Chelsea etc. But I don't have to mingle with them as I don't in daily life (friends aside.), so I don't get where you're coming from.

As for slagging players off from rival clubs one week and then settling those feelings for England - Players come and go. You and I know that more than most at our own club. It's not the players that count, it's the people, flag and badge on the chest.

England have been boring for years, but like Fat Kev said, this is the most likable bunch in an England shirt for years and I'm hoping they do us proud.

For Club & Country.

Re: England win the world cup
Sorry, let's have it right here. Most West Ham supporters don't believe that we won the World Cup in '66 - it's a fucking wind up.

Yes, we can take more pride than most because of the circumstances in which we won it - but that's it. It would be exactly the same if we were to win the World Cup this year with Tottenham fans.

With regards to putting rivalries aside, to support England, I find it extremely hard to do so. Now you can argue that is wrong, and you're probably right - but I'm sorry, I can't warm to that group of players (especially the Tottenham players). Also, it's not just about club rivalries. As Sand Iron pointed out, most of them are flash, egocentric fuckers with little, if any, likeable or funny personalities. The irony, is that I think Harry Kane is one of the more likeable one's but that isn't saying much.

I feel there is something disingenuous, on my behalf, about slagging off & disliking those players most of the time and then suddenly pretending that I want them to do well, because they're playing for England.

Fair play to those that can put the club rivalries to one side - I envy you - it is the right thing to do and makes the experience much more enjoyable.

Oh, another positive for England - I have time for Gareth Southgate, seems a decent bloke.

Re: England win the world cup
people moaning about how Tottenham would gloat but still going on about the boys of 66. People need to get over who people play for, its probably one of the most likeable England teams in ages and that goes for Southgate as well. His little waistcoat number didn't go unnoticed last night as well.
