Guardian Rumour Mill

Scott Murray

According to our back-of-a-fag-packet calculations, Liverpool haven’t signed a totally dependable goalkeeper since enticing Ray Clemence from Scunthorpe in 1967. That record is likely to be maintained for a little longer, because Chelsea are going to beat them to the signature of the Roma and Brazil stopper Alisson. Long-time suitors Real Madrid won’t be too happy about that news either.

Liverpool will console themselves by landing midfielder Marco Asensio in a big-money deal. And Manchester United want Toni Kroos! It’s not a good day for Real Madrid, this, is it.

José Mourinho is also trying to lure another central defender to Manchester United. But Milan Skriniar – of Inter, Slovakia and nominative determinism – seemingly won’t be tempted by a £57m bid. Leonardo Bonucci of Milan might act as an alternative, though Manchester City are also interested in the 31-year-old.

Jack Wilshere is off to miss large chunks of the season for Fenerbahce. Arsenal hope to fill their resulting midfield vacancy with Aleksandr Golovin of CSKA Moscow and Russia, but Chelsea are poised to act as spoilers for that one too.

One Scottish international left-back is already on Merseyside. Andrew Robertson may soon be joined, sort of, by another, Kieran Tierney. The 21-year-old Celtic star is being eyed by Everton. Tottenham and Manchester United may scupper the big get-together, though.

Matt Ritchie will be parlayed into transfer funds by Newcastle. Middlesbrough and Stoke City are interested in the 28-year-old winger, who would be turning dropping to the Championship into an art form.

And there’s no World Cup football today, so that’s Friday basically over already.

Compared to Kylian Mbappe, reported West Ham target Karamoh still a risk

West Ham are reported to be keen on Yann Karamoh

If you offered most West Ham the chance to sign a player nicknamed the 'next Mbappe', most would jump at it.

With reported target Yann Karamoh, the comparisons might be a bit too generous.

Tuttomercatoweb report West Ham are eyeing a move for Karamoh, who signed for Inter Milan last summer.

Karamoh, 19, joined Inter last summer from Caen with a big reputation.

The Express reported last year how Karamoh is compared to Kylian Mbappe - but his goal return does not show it.

He had just five first team goals for Caen before his switch - and at Inter Milan he has only one.

Karamoh has been utilised as more of a winger than a striker, and really deserves to be judged on his own merits - rather than against Mbappe who has 47 goals in the past two seasons.

Even so, Karamoh is a player who West Ham must question whether he is better than what they already have.

Is the 19-year-old ready to thrive in the pressure laden environment of the London Stadium?

If the Hammers wish to take the gamble then it is at their own risk, but they would be better off looking for more established targets.

Club hope to sell player ‘next week’ and West Ham only named destination

Barcelona allowed Marlon to join Ligue 1 side OGN Nice on a two-year loan deal last summer, which included an option for the French club to sign him on a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old impressed for Nice so much so that he has emerged as a transfer target for West Ham United. Over the past few weeks, we’ve carried several reports talking about the London club’s interest in the player.

On June 12th, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who claimed Barcelona were demanding €25m, while West Ham were ready to pay only €15m.

Four days ago, the same publication mentioned the Hammers are “in pole position” to sign the defender, whilst also talking about interest from an unnamed Premier League club.

Today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims Barcelona have plans in place to sanction the sale of a few players, whose services are no longer required at Camp Nou. Marlon is one player mentioned in the list and they have once again talked about West Ham.

When auditing of a European football club, the financial year starts on July 1st and ends of June 30th of the next calendar year. Any signing that will be completed this month will be taken into account of the current financial year, while if it’s done in July then it will be calculated for the next financial year.

The report mentions players, including Marlon could leave Barcelona ‘next week’ because of the above mentioned reason. So far, only West Ham are mentioned as the only possible destination for the South American defender.

Barcelona ‘hope’ to see a few of their players, including Marlon, leave the club in the first week of July.

West Ham, Wolves battling for €10m Brazilian midfielder

West Ham are one of three clubs chasing Fenerbahce midfielder Josef de Souza, according to reports in Turkey.

AMK claim that the London club have already had a bid rejected for the 29-year-old, but are still optimistic about signing him.

Souza is out of contract at the Turkish club next summer, so is likely to be sold this transfer window. Talks over an extension have broken down, and three Premier League clubs are hovering.

West Ham‘s €12m bid was turned down, but the report claims that Fenerbahce are willing to reconsider offers for the midfielder after learning of his wish to leave. Wolves and Watford are the other English clubs interested in taking Souza.

The Brazilian made 41 appearances in all competitions last season, weighing in with four goals.

With Fenerbahce desperate to raise funds due to Financial Fair Play scrutiny, they could accept an offer of €10m for Souza after re-evaluating their position on the player.

Meanwhile, they may have found a replacement for Souza, as ex-Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is said to be in talks with the club over a free transfer.

The Karamoh article sounds like a thinly-veiled ticking-off from Sulli to Pel-boy.

Our interest in Marlon has perked up after finding out he's really just under seven feet tall, and not six as rumoured before.
