The standard of refereeing in this World Cup
Overall I think has been very good. They seem to have chilled out with the VAR a little bit recently thank god.

In all seriousness is there any way the premiere league can get their bloated wallets out and maybe sign a few up?

It’s been so nice to watch football without every game being dominated by some incompetent egotistical cunt

i have watched every game so far and var has been great almost every time
the only game the ref wasn't up to it is the same 1 every 1 else thinks england v columbia and var did not help in that game either

And yet the Colombians feel he was on our side and the reason they lost!

it's been the best in recent memory. Probably worst was ours in the Tunisia game. Cunt.

It's been good with VAR helping in a big way.
The more it's used for holding in the box the less we will see of that so the sooner they start reviewing the play acting and punishing that for ungentlemanly conduct the better.
Lost count of the number of challenges where a player hits the deck holding his face or head when there has been no contact with that part of the body.
We see it in a replay so why can't VAR say yes that's a free kick but book that cunt for being a faking injury to get the guy sent off cunt.

I think its been good overall, far better than the premiership which explains why no English refs are taking part.

Just listening to the Geordie speak you can understand why NO FOOTBALLER ever took him seriously !

Sorry but British refs are sub-standard in comparison with most of the refs in games I've seen at this WC.

I saw yesterday that Clattenberg reckoned the bloke having his foot on top of Neymars ankle which caused him to roll around as though his foot had been chopped off was a RED card.
The dopey Northern tattooed fraudster.

"our ref's are poor and the fact none are in attendance at the world cup says it all"

It's got nothing to do with the quality of our refs. Clattenburg was our representative but lost the chance to go the World Cup when he left to chase the money in Saudi Arabia, and FIFA rejected the FA's request to change it.

we certainly need to tackle the root cause behind why its so bad in prem and fix it quick

Bruuuno, it’s VAR. Refs are more careful, less likely to indulge in attention seeking when its possible that they’ll be embarrassed by VAR overturning it, and the most difficult decisions are sent to VAR instead of getting it wrong on the spot.

VAR has improved refereeing and the games are better for it.

Thanks trev, interesting. Shame someone high profile can’t accuse the PL of racism, that seems tonne the best way towards promoting change these days.

I believe the reason we don't have foreign refs is that the PGMOL believes there would be a significant culture clash. certain things that players might get away with here they might not in Spain, for example. There was an article about it in The Times awhile back i think.

Anyone know why the PL can’t sign any WC refs? Surely only recruiting (shit) British refs is some form of discrimination?

Re: The standard of refereeing in this World Cup
Virtually every Premier league game seems to come down to some big reffing controversy with one side thinking they have been cheated.
Can’t recall any side going off the deep end with the manager and fans saying it’s all down to the wanker in the black that they are out or lost.

No prima Donna refs from the UK, best tournament ever for officiating

Re: The standard of refereeing in this World Cup
They have admitted that after the Kane wrestling in the Tunisia game that they needed to improve VAR and to be fair they have.
Seemed to have helped the games and the controversy has died down ... as well as spotting things like the German playing the ball to the Korean which no ref could have seen.

It’s been a pleasure to see refs stay in the background rather than all the look-at-me bollocks you get from retards like Madley and Mike Dean.
The Premier league should go and recruit a dozen or so of the best from the World Cup and bin the buffoons.

The refs have been good. The players generally well behaved. The vibe in and around the stadiums and fan zones has been brilliant with no hint of trouble or agro. However it got proper crazy on the streets last night with Russians getting pissed up and a bit fighty. That said there's been army and police everywhere and last night in St Petersburg they were there to try and control the revelry.
If England meet Russia at some point I'd be a little bit more careful after the game.
