These far flung pre-season tours...
...do you get the feeling that they are petering out? I know its exacerbated by this being world cup year however these sides gthat are "competing" in events in australia, Singapore, USA , ++ are barely second stream teams - even thirds in some cases . I see also the MAn U games have been very poorly attended in the USA

Chelsea all the way to Perth etc

I m, happy that West Hama havent done this- the China and Australia trips were a nightmare for us and we lost alot more than we gained.,... hopefully the new regime will say " no thankas' to any future offers...

Having said that, a trip to Germany for a little three game season starter would be cushty!

Faubert faces six months out
New West Ham signing Julien Faubert has been ruled out for six months with a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Faubert was injured during West Ham's 1-0 friendly defeat against Czech side Sigma Olomouc in Austria on 17 July and has returned to France for surgery.

The 23-year-old France midfielder joined the Hammers from Bordeaux for £6.1m on 1 July.

West Ham manager Alan Curbishley told his club's website: "It's a devastating blow for everybody, especially Julien."

a classic west ham signing.

I get all the " they lay on flat beds" however at a time when they are building fitness and getting themselves in good shape, they spend two days flying, plus lose a day on time zone plus recovery- I think on a trip like this they lose four days out of seven minimum

i agree , our schedule looks decent this season, although we dont have a big game to aim for/peak . The betway cups at home were them in most recent years. we go from Angers fc ( who!?) to liverpool!

It's not being broadcast anywhere so I can't imagine they'd have it.

Nothing about it streaming on our youtube or facebook, but Aston Villa have been showing their friendlies on their youtube channel, so possibly on there.

Does anyone know if the Villa game is on TV anywhere tomorrow?

Best avoided.... I think our pre-season has been pretty spot on tbh, just the right level.

It’s seems a long way to go for one match but Chelsea did use the new direct flight to Perth which takes 16 hours and obviously would have been in first class.
There is obviously still an appetite to see the big Premier league teams even at half strength.
Understand 6,000 people turned up at the WACA to watch Chelsea train in the pouring rain on Saturday night and they sold all 60,000 seats at the new Perth Stadium.

Thought OUR trips to America and NZ were a complete waste of time and hindered our preparation.
This season with the Austrian fitness camp then back to the UK for 3 games then some more days of intensive training back in Europe at a camp where the players can be worked on is about right.
The big clubs have most of their preseason planned by the marketing team.

terrible tackle for a friendly. The guy was lucky not have been slapped seeing the reaction of the WH players.

Re: These far flung pre-season tours...
Ah that was a bad tackle wasn't it? nothing to do with poor pitches as w4h was suggesting in his post about pre-season tours.

No idea where Cresswell got a pre-season injury, I remember Faubert because I was out there. We played a Czech team called Sigma Oloruc I think.

Re: These far flung pre-season tours...
It takes 2 or 3 days to get over jetlag for a normal person flying. Maybe more if long haul. But don't forget that these players get lay flat beds and probably private flights that take off and land when suits them best and helps them sleep and recover.

Any club that is on a long haul tour and gets back by the start of August really can't complain about the travelling.

They aren't stuck in economy and then have to come back and leave for work at 7.30am the following day and get home at 6.30 pm at night and work a normal shift.

it is all about the cash. I do appreciate that clubs want extra cash for extra players and expensive wages etc and it is a bind for our fans that are based in the UK to attend. But it helps generate further club exposure and more revenue and larger fan base then surely it is no bad thing. With the amount of time they get a european and further afield tour is no bad thing.

Re: These far flung pre-season tours...
China was where Faubert did his achiles on a quagmire of a pitch and was never the same player

Australia & NZ im sure we lost someone and looked knackered for the first month

no thanks west ham

We did the states a few years back, I don’t think it did us any favours as we looked fucked when we came back. We looked fucked over there too, tbh.

Re: These far flung pre-season tours...
It's just marketing. I guess it's a way to sell merchandise. Chelsea have been targeting the US for a while as Liverpool and Man U have sewn up Asia.

Mind you don't have to go far to get into trouble as remember Cresswell in Austria.
